Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Son.
Hi Kayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey as a makeup artist my senior year of high school in Brooklyn, NY. At that time, I wasn’t getting many clients but got the opportunity to work on family and friends for practice. As high school came to end, I decided to bring my talents to the city of Atlanta, Georgia, where I would be starting my college career at Clark Atlanta University. I worked out of my dorm room my first two years of school. Now, almost four years later, I’ve opened my first beauty suite in Midtown where I currently do both nails and makeup. Within my four years of being in Atlanta, I was able to meet so many other wonderful creatives, stylists, photographers, work on sets, work for my schools Royal Court, and much more! Aside from taking clients, I also have a YouTube channel where I show the world my beauty work process and how I run my second business @shopkaysartistryy where I sell handmade body and beauty products.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride the entire time. I’ve learned so much about myself since I’ve started these two businesses. I did not always have the clientele or number of orders I aimed for, but that did not stop me. I am also a full-time student so that plays a major role in how much time I can spend creating content, taking clients and perfecting my craft. I’ve spent years working on my brand so I am very grateful for every learning opportunity, I use those times to push myself further so my brand can be bigger than what it is now.

Aside from servicing nails and makeup, I also create handmade body and beauty products. These products range from body butters to lip scrubs and have even been used by influencers such as Cuban Link. There is a scent and option for every individual and have sold out at every pop-up shop that I have done. That’s how much people love them! My products are different from others because they are thoughtfully picked by customers. Through Instagram, I ask customers what products they like and what scents they love so they feel connected to the process. Lastly, all products are natural and made with love!

The best way people can support and collaborate with my brand is to simply interact with my posts on my pages, @kaysartistryy and @shopkaysartistryy. I always support other pages and would love to work with other creatives in the Atlanta area. I also do a ton of giveaways and sales so that’s something my followers and customers look forward to.
