Today we’d like to introduce you to Kunle Owolabi.
Hi Kunle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a native of Chicago, IL. My parents moved to Atlanta in 2004, so I’ve been in and out of the area for the last 20 years. I earned my Masters in Market Research and Analytics in 2021 after indirectly working in marketing for almost 10 years through events, merchandising, and social media creation. I was the Creative Director of Free Dope Creative, a collective of creatives that hosted monthly events in the East Atlanta area. Our momentum was hurt signficantly during the pandemic. During the pandemic, I moved to Harrisburg, PA. I started two businesses, Genius of Kunle, a creative agency focused on organic growth for small businesses through research, content creation, and data analytics, and Le Blume Co., where we curate community events both professionally and socially. Those two companies occupy most of my time, but in my free time I am active in the community as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc,, and as a HS Girls Basketball Coach. My long term goal is to open up a community center where I can host events, pop up shops, poetry workshops, etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a difficult road. I’ve learned that most people don’t realize the power of marketing. Others don’t realize how necessary it is. As such, most small businesses don’t create a budget for marketing. Unfortunately, the greatest of products may never reach their target audience without efficient marketing strategies in place. I’ve worked in Marketing for large companies like Bank of America, AT&T, and Cushman & Wakefield, so I wasn’t as aware of these struggles regarding marketing prior to going into work for myself. I’ve definitely found my lane with small business with some movement already because as you expand and learn your audience, marketing because a more relevant topic. So most of my clientele now fall in that bracket. But it’s still a tough sell to help the average person visualize how marketing can increase their visibility and effectiveness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Genius of Kunle is a creative agency that focuses on the creative marketing strategies using traditional marketing techniques. We specialize in organic growth, especially for small to medium sized businesses. The main thing that set us apart is our implementation. Marketing is both an art and a science, an effective marketing campaign uses both of those attributes. Most marketing firms focus on the science. Proven marketing techniques to achieve the desired outcome. Most artists are only concerned about the art. We have the luxury of being proficient in both. We use traditional marketing strategies with a blend of artistic flair to create marketing campaigns that do not look like the average marketing campaign and thus, do not have the same results as the average marketing campaigns. And we use data to showcase the efficiency of these campaigns. We offer the full range of marketing services from graphic design, content creation, marketing strategy, campaign planning, content scheduling, and more.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Atlanta has so many entrepreneurs. I truly believe entrepreneurship is the next wave of business. One of the biggest identifiers of that trend are networks moving away from collective cable offerings and promoting their individual apps instead. Atlanta is definitely at the forefront of that trend. What i HATE about Atlanta is the traffic. Most of my work is remote which is a blessing, but part of the reason I can never fully move back to Atlanta is because the traffic is so terrible. And while they keep building more lanes and more expressways, people are moving there faster than they can expand. Most of my friends and clients that are in the Atlanta area tell me that Atlanta is full and doesn’t need any more new residents. I will heed their advice and not add to their problems.
