Today we’d like to introduce you to Laketa Entzminger.
Hi Laketa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an author, clinical herbalist, and educator. I teach children and families how to use herbs, fruits and vegetables to make natural, healing remedies. I wrote I Am an Herbalist: Easy Herbal Recipes for Children to show how common items found in the kitchen can be used to help the body heal and provide ways families can create new healing habits together.
I started writing as a child. I have always loved to create stories and even wrote my first book in the 7th grade, which was a sequel to Jack and the Beanstalk. My current book came about when I accepted a challenge to write and publish a book in three days with Lady Ty the Great of GreaterU University. She walked me through the entire process and pushed me well past my comfort zone!
My interest in herbalism began as a new educator of young children. I was often sick and missed a lot of school days. This was stressful because I knew the impact my absences could have on my students’ education. I decided to try a student herbal clinic at a local herbalism school. The herbal protocol created for me helped build my immune system, and I was rarely sick. I eventually enrolled at that herbalism school, Traditions School of Herbal Studies, and trained in both Western and Chinese clinical herbalism.
Although herbalism was a big part of my grandparents’ heritage, this information was not passed down to me. My grandparents were herbalists who helped their family and community. However, I did not learn about this until after I began my own studies in herbalism and started sharing with my family what I learned. I decided to write for children and their families to continue my grandparents’ legacy and pass down this knowledge for the benefit of future generations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A challenge has been tackling some of the skepticism that comes with using herbalism as a tool to manage one’s health. As a society, we desire quick fixes but using a natural approach takes time and consistency. It also takes fortitude to change habits developed over the years that have contributed to the chronic health issues we face, especially when that goes against the grain of one’s culture and traditions.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner of Lady K’s Herbal Solutions. It is an herbal care company which educates, empowers, and provides community for families who desire to learn about herbalism and how to incorporate it into their daily lives. Lady K’s Herbal Solutions offers impactful and engaging hands-on workshops and presentations for children and families.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to persevere. At times, life can be a tumultuous journey, but keep going! Pushing through can lead you to new opportunities and experiences that would never happen if you give up.
