Today we’d like to introduce you to Loretta Willis.
Hi Loretta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A creative child, dreamer, and visionary to the core did not always fair well in a strict, military home where it seemed that every hour had to be accounted for, so I learned to express my ideas in art, fashion, crafts and yes, even performance. Memories of relocating almost every two years growing up helped shape my personality by learning to enjoy different cultures and lifestyles as I became a student of how families related to each other and how important the home environment was in shaping relationships. My mom was extremely influential in shaping my love for the home as she expressed love through how she cared about furnishing our home in such a meager yet creative and stylish way.
By the time I entered college, I ventured into textile and fashion design, then corporate management in business before discovering my passion for interior design. Helping others create beautiful and functional interiors tailored to client’s lifestyles and design needs is where I thrive as a designer, project manager and business owner. I love sharing design tips and trends as a luxury blogger and podcaster, helping my listeners and visitors to my design blog connect the dots between great design and healthy relationships within the home.
As a member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), I continue to keep abreast of design options in our ever-changing society so that every home I’m invited in to design showcases the personality and culture of the family that resides in the home with of course, a beautiful and functional outcome!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My career as designer did not happen right away, it evolved after an eight year stint in corporate management, during which time I began using my home as a test lab to showcase my designer skills. Before long, I began to get requests from friends and neighbors to help them with different aspects of design.
Once I decided to make a go of it, I faced challenges of numerous corporate relocations that would affect building a client base but learned that it only took one good client to restart the business in a new location. Gaining exposure through blogging, social media, attending design events has also helped in establishing a platform in the industry.
I’ve also learned that struggle and challenges, if handled properly, actually makes us better at doing business correctly and professionally. My goal is to serve my clients well and with excellence, as I would like to be treated if I were the client.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My first point of entry is to become a student of my client’s personality and lifestyle before the creative process begins. Incorporating these factors is crucial in creating beautiful and functional interiors tailored to the client’s design needs.
We offer extensive knowledge in residential interior design furnishings/accessories, custom furnishings, and color plans.
