I embarked on my journey with CharterUP directly from the investment banking landscape, but my connection with its founder, Armir Harris, was formed long before, during our early career days in Charlotte. Despite my shift to the fast-paced environment of New York City, where I specialized in mergers and acquisitions, I was always interested to hear from Armir about CharterUP’s vision and growth potential. What particularly struck me was CharterUP’s technological approach and sustainable mission. This passion led me to take the bold step of leaving my established path and diving into the transformative waters of CharterUP, and I’m incredibly grateful for taking the leap.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While CharterUP’s journey has been remarkable, it was not without its challenges. Transitioning from well-oiled corporate machinery to a startup environment meant dealing with ambiguity and crafting original solutions. In large corporations like JPMorgan, most processes are well-established and perfected, and solutions are readily available. In contrast, startups, especially ones like CharterUP that seek to disrupt traditional industries by bringing them online, face the exhilarating but demanding task of tackling uncharted territory. It’s thrilling to work on problems that have no established answers or solutions and no existing playbook to guide you.
However, the most significant test came with the global pandemic. Overnight, demand plummeted by 95%, forcing us to swiftly adapt and efficiently allocate our resources to ensure the company’s survival. This presented a challenge, but our team exhibited unwavering conviction that the travel industry would eventually recover. Our response was not just about survival but also about harnessing this period to strengthen our technological backbone, ensuring that we were not just a surviving company but a more robust one ready for post-pandemic growth.

Creating something entirely new, starting from a smaller scale, and witnessing its transformation into a significant player in the industry is a source of pride. Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
During my formative years, I found myself navigating a diverse array of social circles, a trend that interestingly mirrors the dynamic environment of CharterUP today – a blend of intensity and camaraderie. My parents instilled in me a strong sense of identity and emphasized intellectual development from an early age. Academics held a paramount place in my life, and I approached my studies with dedication and enthusiasm. In college, I delved into subjects like mathematics, statistics, and economics, further nurturing my passion for analytical thinking.
Despite my academic focus, I also cherished my social interactions. I maintained a vibrant social life, cherishing friendships and actively engaging with various social groups. This balance between my academic pursuits and social connections was crucial to my development. Additionally, my love for sports, particularly football and martial arts, provided a healthy outlet for my energy and fueled my competitive spirit.
This diverse set of experiences and interests set the stage for who I am today. Being surrounded by intelligent, hardworking, and affable individuals has been a constant theme, shaping my outlook and aligning seamlessly with the collaborative spirit at CharterUP. It’s this multifaceted background that has not only influenced my personal growth but also resonates with the dynamic atmosphere of the company.
