Today we’d like to introduce you to Magic Monroe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I became interested in metaphysics when I was in high school here in Atlanta, where I took art. I’ve always been interested in colors and how they influence human behavior. As a child, I associated colors with personalities, and this felt like a natural progression. So over time, I started associating that with my artwork. Because my art was often based in ancient mythologies, that led me to look into various cultures and customs.
When I was 17, I got a part-time job at Psycho Sisters Little Five Points, which is a liberal, bohemian part of the city. There are also several metaphysical shops in the area; as I made friends and acquaintances, especially Akasha El, who became my teacher in Little Five, it led me to study metaphysics more deeply. Soon, I was immersed in the world of metaphysics as first an apprentice, then in divination (such as interpreting numbers, cards, etc.) and other parts of the arts. I ventured from Psycho Sisters to other jobs but returned to metaphysics at Synchronicity under the tutelage of Dr. Scheherazade Taylor, who became my mentor. After adopting Yoruba as my spiritual heritage and starting work at YeYe’s under another mentor, Baba (“father”) Ifasola, my progress as both a worker and in the Yoruba religion led him to offering me the opportunity to own my own store, 3 Corners in Little Five Points, which I co-own with my cousin Naeemah Anai.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. Having to be an independent contractor, artist, and entrepreneur has been challenging to build a clientele and be consistent and constantly growing. And the usual issues with being a small business staying afloat in the age of Covid-19 and just regularly.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
3 Corners Metaphysical Shop is an African-inspired botanica and jewelry boutique in Atlanta, Georgia, that specializes in spiritual candles, stones & crystals, aromatherapy, incenses, spiritual body products, copper & brass jewelry and much more.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see metaphysics and other spiritual awakenings becoming more widespread and diverse nationally and globally. That, in turn, will open up new opportunities and new markets for forward-thinking entrepreneurs.
