Community Highlights: Meet Malcolm Strapp of I Am/I Can Strength and Conditioning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Strapp.

Hi Malcolm, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It started when I was in college, I was overweight and was working on myself trying to stay fit and see what works for me, which eventually I went from 240 pounds to 190 pounds in weight. Over the years, I learned more and more about Strength and Conditioning with my time working with The University of Texas at San Antonio Football Strength & conditioning staff and the Miami Hurricanes Football Strength & Conditioning staff, as well as other private gyms in San Antonio and Miami. Which lead me to opening up I Am/I Can Strength and Conditioning Gym, with providing the same knowledge and background of a professional/collegiate fitness professional to the general population.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was rough to start, I had to learn a lot and deal with a lot of criticism in order to have my cards in order. With dealing with the negativity of my peers in the field and continuing to learn to be myself within a competitive field made me a tougher coach. Learning the limitations of individuals in general population was my first test, spending the past few years training athletes made it more of a smoother transition since there was rarely any limitations.

Being an introverted extrovert also played its course, I had to learn to engage and initiate conversation which was a weak point for me at the start.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best is the business-minded people that I’ve come across with my time here. They’ve been extremely helpful and intuitive on giving out games on how they were able to have a business up and running for 10+ years. There is also a lot to do with your free time in Atlanta if you have downtime or just want to step out. Extremely Cultural city. My dislikes have been the drivers in Atlanta, they don’t use their blinkers when switching lanes and are often flying on the highway at the same time so it makes me timid whenever I am making turns.
