Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mazi O.
Hi Mazi, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I actually started off in the entertainment industry wanting to be a rapper, me and my brothers had a rap group and we used to put out mixtapes called the “African Mafia Mixtapes”.
Mixtapes were big back then. I would put together a playlist of all new music from popular artists and always include one or two of our songs. I did all the graphics. Then, I would go get the covers and the CDs printed up. We used to sell a few hundred mixtapes each time. Eventually, I started making beats, and that led to me getting into video production.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle or hurdle has been trying to pursue the dream, and still maintain a regular responsible adult life. Paying bills, going to work on time, etc. It’s hard to live in both worlds, meaning the world of a creative, aka an artists and the world of being a regular 9 to 5 employee.
That’s why they call many of us “starving artists” because often times we choose to chase the art. That is the greatest challenge, creating freely if you have no financial supporters.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
It may seem vain, but it’s just simple: My company is named “The Mazio Company,” aka TMC. Although I am known as a video director and cinematographer, I have actually been involved in digital marketing for years.
I’ve done digital media marketing for a lot of people and brands, like Lil Cease of Junior Mafia, French Montana, Cardi B., Akon, Remy Martin Liquor, and several others, even a few TV shows and movies. Digital marketing is the best place to me for promoting your product in todays time.
The size of these different social media platforms alone is proof of the possibility.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating makes me happy. I love to create; I love having an idea in my head and being able to bring it to life for others to experience and enjoy, to see what I saw in my head before anyone could see it, and to feel what I felt. To me, that is amazing. That is happiness, whether it’s a visual creation, an audio creation, or both. I just like that.
I feel like it is a spiritual connection if you’re a true artist; something about it moves you in your core, it’s tapped into, it comes from your essence; that’s why some of the greatest art is inspired by raw emotions because there’s just something so connected to our inner being that must be reached to flow authentically. If you believe in God, you understand that the universe is art. God was an artist.
