Community Highlights: Meet Nick Martin of Law Office of Nicholas P. Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Martin.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I had an interest in the law beginning at some point in high school. I graduated from Duluth High School (Gwinnett County) and attended the University of Georgia. I hoped to go to law school, but if I did not, I wanted to teach and coach baseball. I majored in secondary education from UGA. I then taught at Collins Hill High School in Gwinnett County. I taught for 3 years before going to law school. Teaching in public school really helped me understand how much I enjoy helping others.
I went to law school at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After law school I returned to Georgia and took the bar exam. I worked in Lawrenceville for a small general practice law office for the first nine years of my career. I practiced primarily divorce/custody, criminal defense, and person injury cases. I got a lot of experience litigating cases and helped hundreds of clients.
In 2020, I opened my own practice and focus solely on personal injury cases. I opened by office 3 weeks before the COVID shutdown, so that first year was very scary. However, my firm has grown significantly since opening. I focus on referral-based clients and enjoy helping people that have been injured.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first year of opening my office was toughest. I opened my office a few weeks before COVID hit. Once the shutdown occurred there were so few people driving that I wasn’t getting much business. I joined a networking group to help get referrals. I met a lot of great people, formed new relationships, and continue to reap the benefits of joining a networking group.
As the business grows, I also have to stay on top of business systems to handle the workload. It has been tough to implement new systems while continuing to manage cases.
I also got married and had 2 children since opening my office. Now I try to find time to balance work and family.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Law Office of Nicholas P. Martin?
My practice is guided by a few simple values – honesty and value. I want to help people that have been injured navigate the insurance and legal system. I want all of my clients to understand their options for recovery from an injury. I want to bring value to my client’s case and help them as if they are my own family.

Attorneys often get a bad name for dishonesty and clients get upset when they cannot get in touch with their attorney. I want to change that perception about attorneys and make sure clients get answers to their questions.

Any big plans?
If I follow my values, the business will continue to grow. As it grows, I want people working for me that have the same values. I have one employee right now and feel she approaches cases and clients with similar values.
