Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Owusu.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Phreshly was born at the height of the pandemic. I tweeted Issa Rae after watching Insecure, the comedy-drama TV series she created and starred in. The tweet went viral and replies validated a universal problem. I realized that we’re in a new era with a rise in consumers that are looking for better-for-you options, but today’s ready-to-drink products are poorly positioned. This is where Phreshly shines as a brand.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to building and scaling a company isn’t always linear. Ours came with supply chain issues, but we succeeded in pushing through those boundaries.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Phreshly is a black women-led company. This is our core when it comes to how intentional we are with formulating incredible flavor notes, brand positioning, and overall transparency into why Phreshly is a better-for-you option.
Though our backgrounds run a gamut (tech veterans leading growth and marketing, and operations at companies like Twitter, Discover, Settle, Chime & Mailchimp), we’re excited to be in this space and looking to expand our category of premium cocktails.
Additionally, we want every Phreshly customer to feel as though their friend, cousin, or neighbor are behind the cocktail they’ve come to love and enjoy.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Our team took a risk in building products in a space we barely knew. But through data and a lot of research, we were able to continue building.
