Hi Quay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the creator and owner Of Yurganic Luxurious Lip Care. I’m from Brooklyn, NY. A mother to identical twins and I moved to Atlanta in 2017. I hold a degree In legal studies, in college I had dreams of becoming a Parole officer but quickly turned an eye to relocating and entrepreneurship after returning to college and graduating in 2016. That being not only because who doesn’t want to work for themselves but I’ve always said when I became a mom, I wanted to be able to dedicate myself to motherhood 100%, I feel that comes a lot from not being raised by my mom, let’s not get it twisted though I absolutely love and adore my mom, we have a wonderful relationship, but sometimes life throws curve balls at you and things happen. How people can be on call for work I wanted to be able to allow myself to be on call for my children, I laugh sometimes cause I really used to joke saying “after my twenties, SAHM ME”.
I’m very much the Millennial Mary from 227. It’s really true what they say stay at home mom’s job is equivalent to a full-time job. Lucky for me being financially responsible in my adult years leading up to motherhood and also having a partner who pours theirselves into me, and my children, I’m able to live the life. In the manner that I dreamed of as a young girl. I moved to Atl to pursue acting and modeling, since moving here I’ve done a lot of promos and commercial work, I’ve also worked with artists like 21 savage, Lil Boosie, 2chainz, YFN Lucci and Gucci Mane to name a few. I casted for a couple of movie roles, though I didn’t get the parts that doesn’t mean it is not in my future, I just have to wait until my stars align. When I am not tied up with casted work or my daughters, I’m pouring myself into Digital Content of lifestyle and visual storytelling dedicated to my SAHM lifestyle #SahmMomsBeLike, it peaks the interest of viewers all over the world. Digital content published consists of different appetizing food recipes, at-home hacks, convenient DIY’s, even testing out different home gadgets and giving an honest rate, opinion and where you can find. Then of course you can’t be a SAHM without the main piece…. children, my audience enjoys watching me prank, annoy, but most of all nurture and love on my identical girls who turn 15 on Mother’s Day.
Also, there’s a segment on my URL link pages called “Car Rap Trap” where I take on different instrumental challenges lyrically. I’ve been writing literally since I was a young girl. I’ve always found a lot of comfort in creative writing and reading. I never wanted to really be “outside” growing up, I always wanted to be in the house reading and writing, just feeding my mental. I actually wrote two books when I was like thirteen. I’ll never forget my grandmother took me to a book fair/signing and there I met Deborah Gregory and Ruby Dee and I was just so intrigued by them, I finished Deborah Gregory whole paperback collection in a week. After that, I wrote a book. I so wish I could find that today. Lastly, there is my prized possession Yurganic. In 2020 I started Yurganic, A unisex luxurious lip care line made “Organically For You”. Yurganic helps to care for and maintain a healthy set of lips, we like to say, “Treat your smile”. The journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m not even pertaining to just sales. It’s learning new information in All aspects from cosmetics to all-natural skincare. I’m finding new groups every day on being a woman running a small black business. I’m Meeting new people, all while making new sales, it’s all a journey and I’m riding the wave.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When it comes to modeling, I wouldn’t say tough but a very big aspect would have to be staying true to yourself and knowing what is and is not for you. Setting boundaries and keeping them and never letting a dollar amount be placed on your dignity. There are so many castings I’ve said no too. It just wasn’t for me and also I do have two daughters watching, so anything and everything I do has to be tasteful and not tasteless. In a world full of instant gratification, substance is very important to me, and that requires a little more patience. With Yurganics, there has been some hiccups but I stay optimistic and work through whatever issue is at hand. With Covid happening, many times my inventory has been stuck overseas, delaying launches of collections and sales. There was one time I had all my exfoliate jars but not any glaze jars, something little like that can stop a whole process, reason being because Yurganic has some collections that only sell in sets. However, I must say the outpouring amount of support Yurganic has received from launching to now makes my heart smile. I can get one sale a day, but I promise you every time I do have an order to process I do my little dance. I’m grateful.

Patience is a virtue, bounce off of different ideas and aesthetics that may fit your brand. Weigh your options in every aspect from branding to building, seek what options best fit both you and your brand and dance with them. It’s not always good to go with your first choice because the second or even the third choice might be even better options and you sell yourself short. Don’t compare and contrast with others because what is meant for you is for you, doubting yourself only hinders growth so water your garden which is your yourself and your And your craft. Like they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Also, you don’t need one hundred thousand followers on social media to have a successful small business, many times many get lost in the world of social media and question potential (comparing and contrasting), just note this, I saw it somewhere years ago and it’s stated something To the effect of “I know a small business with one thousand followers but made one hundred thousand sales this year”. You have to believe in your brand, market, network and push forward only because you are the vessel between your brand and your sales and you have to bring the two to meet. Many are stagnant and procrastinate with their dreams due to fear of failing so I want to end with this quote from Paulo Coelho novel “The Alchemist”, “My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer”, the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up to the moonless sky. “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has suffered when it goes in search of its dreams”.
