Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Fraser.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a self-taught chef originally from Kingston, Jamaica where I have been experimenting in the kitchen since the age of nine. Cooking has never been a job, but a passion and hobby that I enjoy thoroughly. Over the years my love for cooking continued to grow and I found myself catering to a bigger and more experienced clientele. In 2019 I decided to leave corporate America to fulfill my dream of being a fulltime chef. Here we are now Rae’s Food Diaries!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is ever peaches and cream, as an entrepreneur there are busy days and slow days. My busy days definitely balance out my slow days. When you do what you love, you do not let it interfere with your overall business and goals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rae’s Food Diaries is the name of my catering and private chef company. I am a private chef and caterer in the Atlanta area and also travel globally. I specialized in gourmet Jamaican food, Southern cuisine, Chinese and Vegan dishes. My creative twist to each of my menu items sets me apart from others. I put my own unique flavor in my recipes. My Oxtail Rasta Pasta and Jerk Lamb Chops are my top selling items. Apart from catering, I do specialize in meal prep and private dinners (ranging from 2 people and up).
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Yes, I have learned many important lessons along the way. Never giving up nor being discouraged by obstacles you may face are the most important lesson I have learned. Also, continuously believing in myself and my cuisines. Confidence with humility is my biggest strength. Lastly, good marketing strategies and understanding my market.
