Community Highlights: Meet Robert Segura of Phcraybert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Segura.

Robert, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a video editor, creative director, content creator, and filmmaker, originally from San Jose, California, but my journey has taken me far beyond where I started, both creatively and personally.

As a kid, I was always chasing ways to express myself. I tried everything, acting, modeling, making little live action videos on my computer with my WWE action figures, anything that gave me the chance to create my own world and escape into it. I didn’t have a blueprint for what I wanted to be, but I knew I wanted to create. I wanted to make people feel something.

My first real step into the industry came as a production assistant on TV shows like P-Valley on Starz and Long Slow Strokes on Spectrum. I made a promise to myself early on: say yes to everything. Every opportunity, every department, every late-night shoot—yes. That mindset allowed me to explore every corner of production: art direction, set building, assisting camera, audio, editing, producing, and eventually, directing. I learned the craft from the ground up.

Growing up watching 106 & Park and MTV Jams, I used to dream about what it would be like to work on music videos. That dream became real when I contributed to two videos for EarthGang and a project for one of my favorite artists, Summer Walker, on her track with Lil Tjay. Those moments felt like full-circle magic.

That push led me to Los Angeles, where I worked with Walmart Creative to help launch their new production studio in Playa Vista. But I kept feeling this tug, this desire for more. Not just more opportunities, but more ownership. I didn’t want to just help build someone else’s vision, I wanted to shape and share my own. From there, I leaned into my passion for video editing. What started as personal projects grew into editing for influencers, and now I’ve edited videos for platforms like BET and Revolt.

Today, I’m building my own creative agency. I’m in pre-production for a short film that I wrote and developed, and I continue to produce content across music, film, and social media. I’m still that same kid from San Jose who dreamed with his whole heart, but now I have the tools, the team, and the experience to bring those dreams to life.

My advice to any creative out there: keep dreaming, even when it hurts. I’ve been through homelessness. I’ve lost people I love. I’ve had to rebuild more times than I can count. But I never stopped believing in the power of creating. Even in my darkest moments, creativity gave me purpose. It reminded me that I could still build something beautiful out of the broken pieces.

Resilience is my foundation. Storytelling is my gift. And I’m just getting started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first moved to Los Angeles chasing this dream, I was filled with ambition, but I didn’t have a plan. No real savings. No job lined up. I believed in myself, but belief doesn’t pay rent. Not long after arriving, I found myself homeless, sleeping in my car, unsure of where I would shower, what I would eat next, or if I’d made the biggest mistake of my life. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. There were nights I sat in silence, asking myself if this dream was even worth it.

But I kept showing up. I kept saying “yes” to opportunities, no matter how small they seemed. That resilience opened the door for me to start working in TV production, on sets that I once only dreamed of being part of. I was learning, contributing, growing. And for a while, things felt like they were finally falling into place.

Then came the layoffs. The financial droughts. The moments where I had to completely pivot my life to survive. There were times I had to pause my dreams just to make ends meet. Times I felt like I was failing. But what I came to understand is that the creative path isn’t linear. It’s filled with detours, setbacks, and sacrifices that most people will never see. Still, I chose to keep going.

I learned that being a creative isn’t just about talent, it’s about tenacity. It’s about choosing to dream, even when everything around you tells you not to. You’ll question yourself. You’ll feel like you’re wasting time. But you have to believe in your vision before anyone else does. You have to believe so fiercely that even in your lowest moments, you know your story isn’t over.

There are so many creatives in the world, but your ideas, your voice, your style, they’re one of one. That’s your power. That’s your legacy. The world doesn’t need you to be perfect. It needs you to be real. To keep creating. To keep fighting.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth. But the struggle gave me grit, and the grit gave me clarity. And now, I move not just with passion, but with purpose.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Phcraybert is more than just a creative marketing agency, it’s a home for all the facets of who I am as a creator. I built it with intention: to be a space where artistry meets strategy, where storytelling drives impact, and where brands, businesses, and individuals can bring their visions to life in ways that feel authentic and fresh.

At Phcraybert, we specialize in full-service content production, from video shoots and photography to creative direction and editing. Whether it’s launching a new product, building an influencer campaign, or creating a scroll-stopping social media moment, we craft content that doesn’t just look good, it connects. Our clients range from growing businesses to major brands and influencers, and we tailor each project with care, clarity, and creativity.

What sets us apart is our ability to tell stories that feel real. We don’t just make content for content’s sake, we make things that move people. Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes doc-style shoot, a slick branded campaign, or a TikTok that goes viral for its relatability, we bring depth, emotion, and high production value to everything we do.

We also offer professional video editing services, where I work directly with brands, influencers, and media outlets to shape their stories in post-production. From corporate content to culture-driven campaigns, we know how to make edits that elevate the message and energize the audience.

Right now, I’m in pre-production on a short film titled “A Creative Journey,” being developed through Phcraybert. It explores the raw, unfiltered experience of being a creative, the wins, the breakdowns, the moments of doubt, and the moments of magic. It’s deeply personal and something I think a lot of people will connect with.

And believe it or not, Phcraybert all started with a 14-year-old kid and an Instagram account. When the platform first launched, I wanted a username that stood out—something creative that represented me. I combined three things: “Photography,” “Crazy,” and my name, “Robert”, and just like that, Phcraybert was born. What started as a quirky social handle turned into a personal brand… and eventually, a full-blown creative agency.

What I’m most proud of is that Phcraybert is rooted in purpose. We don’t just create visuals, we build platforms for underrepresented voices, for big dreamers, and for those who want to do something different. Everything we make is grounded in emotion, intention, and excellence.

So if you’re looking to elevate your brand, bring your story to life, or collaborate on something creatively meaningful, Phcraybert is here, and ready. We’re not just an agency. We’re a movement. Let’s build something beautiful together.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people about me is how much I’ve endured behind the scenes. A lot of people see the bright, creative, always-smiling version of me, the one producing content, uplifting others, and chasing big ideas. But what they often don’t see is the pain and persistence that got me here.

I tend to keep my struggles to myself. I’ve experienced deep loss, financial instability, and even homelessness. When I first moved to Los Angeles, I had nowhere to go. I was sleeping in my car, unsure of what was next. And yet, even in those moments, I was dreaming. I was writing, creating, planning. I never let go of the vision I had for my life, even when everything around me said I should.

I’ve been laid off. I’ve had to pivot more times than I can count. But I never stopped choosing this path, because storytelling is in my soul. Creating is how I heal. It’s how I connect. And it’s how I hope to leave something meaningful behind.

The truth is, my journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s shaped me into someone who is deeply dedicated to this work. I don’t just want to make content, I want to make impact. I want to remind people that beauty can come from broken places. That you don’t have to be perfect to be powerful. And that your story, no matter how messy it’s worthy of being told.

So yes, I may show up with kindness and light. But that light was fought for. And it’s what drives everything I create.
