Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Johnson.
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from dental school in 2012. After years of providing dentistry to patient’s as an associate, I bought my practice in 2021 in Marietta, Ga. I had my son in 2015 and after he was born, I was faced with many health issues for him due to a lip and tongue tie. After discovering how this affected oral development and airway health, I dove deep into learning how to diagnose and treat airway issues do to developmental issues in the mouth. I now solely treat airway and invisalign in kids and adults while my wonderful associate does the general dentistry in our practice. It is my goal to educate patients and parents on how oral structures affect their breathing and how in turn, this affects their overall health. We see kids ages 4 and up for early intervention. Things that can be seen in patients related to airway are grinding, mouth breathing, reflux, snoring, sleep apnea, ADHD, behavioral regulation, adenoid and tonsil enlargement, malaligned teeth, and the list goes on!
I am also on of the top 35 GP invisalign providers in the nation and top 150 in the world. I lecture across the nation for align technology and it gives me joy teaching doctors how to implement invisalign in their practice and create a better work life balance.
This journey has given me the motivation to create an airway course with my friend, Dr. Stephanie Sweeney, which will be held in October 2025 here in Atlanta, to teach doctors across the world on how to treat airway
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say it has been smooth. I was fearful of starting my own practice as I have a father who is a dentist and I have seen his struggles. Not only that, but we are taught nothing about business in dental school! A friend of mine who owns her own business encouraged me to buy mine and told me “you don’t have to know everything to be successful, you just have to surround yourself with people who do”. I have hit many bumps in the road, but have learned and have grown along the way. What keeps me going is knowing how much I’m helping patients.
I was also fearful of this journey as I am a single mom. I thought that starting this business would take away from the time I have with him. In actuality it has allowed me a better work life balance and more time with my son
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Insight Dental LLC?
I’m a dentist! But I am one of a few in the Atlanta area that has received extensive post-doctoral training on airway treatment in kids and adults. What I’m most proud of is helping kids and adults breathe and feel better! That and that I have such an incredible team that brings such joy to the office
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe that the energy and work that you put out into this world comes back to you. So many people let fear control their decisions, but any step forward will elicit fear and I feel this is when you know you are heading in the right direction.
