Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Aubrey.
Hi Shane, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing events at a young age with my first event being a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House at the age of 10. In high school, I developed a reputation for throwing the biggest & best house parties. Later in life during college, we started producing New Year’s Eve parties which eventually became the Downtown Countdown New Year’s Eve.
The party was Atlanta’s biggest all-inclusive NYE event for many years with food, drinks, DJ’s, bands & comedy in multiple rooms. We featured acts like Zac Brown (before he hit it big), Arrested Development, LIVE, The Romantics, Young MC, Tone Loc just to name a few. After college, I began a career in marketing with Time Inc. During those 14 years, I made a side hustle of producing festivals & events, eventually going full-time in 2003 with USA Entertainment. Since then, I brought in a partner in the business and we created 2 companies. Armus Media Group which does hospitality and event marketing & consulting and Georgia PEC (Peachtree Events & Concessions) which does event concessions. After 20 years, we own & produce 3 Atlanta festivals: Wing & Rock Fest, Taste & Brews & the Atlanta Chili Cook Off. We also own Atlanta Bar Tours which produces bar tours all over Metro Atlanta.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had a lot of success but also some failures. The key is to learn from our mistakes and improve upon them. Right now staffing has been a challenge obviously with Covid recently and now the low unemployment rate. Once you find key people we nurture them by keeping them happy and productive to ensure our employees remain loyal and motivated. Another key challenge is social media advertising. Facebook and Instagram tend to change their platforms all the time, so you need to constantly keep up with the new changes and upgrades.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
