Today we’d like to introduce you to Siddiqu Muhammad.
Hi Siddiqu, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My father died of cancer when I was a teenager. Being in the hospital and having no understanding how the human body can go from strong to weak, sparked something in me. I can admit that I took health for granted. “We wake up every day and just figure out a way to make money?” That was my mindset. “Why would what I eat affect my future? or my weight? or any habit?” The experience of losing the closest person to me made me realize that we can make different choices. I graduated from DePaul University and became a personal trainer to improve the health of people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been extremely rough. I was unable to afford to live because being a trainer doesn’t immediately pay the bills. I started off with one client, at one session a week, for $10. My mother had an old car so I would sleep in the car and then take a quick shower in the sink of a Mcdonald’s. At one point things got so bad I sold my plasma to eat food. This went on for a while but I slowly started getting my break, more clients.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Chicago Fit 4 Life?
Chicago Fit 4 Life is a fitness organization that focuses on Health Presentations, Workout Parties, Personal Training, Nutrition workshops, Exercise class for adults, exercise classes for kids, and books.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up was all about survival. My mother sent me to live in a group home at 10. I was taller than boys my age so I was forced to live with the teenagers. I had an interest in video games growing up, and sci-fi books.
