Today we’d like to introduce you to Sra Media
SRA, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It could be said that both Khayla and Brooke always wanted to professionally get into film. Khayla has always been deeply interested in film and photography—something she’s been passionate about for years. Over time, people would tell her, “Oh, you’re so good at this. Why don’t you do it for real?”
Brooke has an educational background in film and audio production, and worked in live events for a while before moving into virtual events. She’s now circling back to the reason she got into film in the first place.
Both Khayla and Brooke love the art of storytelling.
When Khayla moved to Chicago, she and Brooke met and during that time, they got to talk about how they felt about film and what they wanted to do. Khayla had always been drawn to niche events—those under-the-radar kinds of experiences—and thought, “These are so fun; more people should know about them.”
In Chicago Brooke and Khayla connected over their shared interests. Brooke was interested in docuseries and storytelling, and we started talking about the stories that often go untold. Khayla was already writing articles about different organizations but wanted to take it further by interviewing the owners and showcasing their work, telling their stories.
They both moved to Chicago, looking for more creative and diverse spaces to express themselves. They started attending events and meeting people doing really amazing things, and wanted to help amplify their stories. So they did.
They started interviewing founders, and their audiences. Gaining insight on the motivation behind these events. Gaining insight on the gap that was being filled in the community. The more events they went to and the more people they met, the more they wanted to help people get their stories out into the world.
They both appreciate the power of storytelling, especially visual storytelling, and they decided to partner. They wanted to use their skills to bring attention to these untold stories, whether it was through interviews, short films, podcasts, events or articles.
And that’s how they got started—interviewing people, writing articles, and producing short films.
A year later they have been able to expand beyond storytelling and into marketing and PR. Crafting clients social media pages to better tell their stories, producing commercials, and curating events to give a platform where people can tell their story.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Definitely not. Challenging is an understatement! Structuring the business was a process; They had to jump in and learn as they went. They’re still learning.
Writing articles was also a challenge because you want to capture the feelings and emotions accurately—it takes time. They had to sharpen their editing skills and improve how they communicate their vision to others.
On top of that, more recently managing things while living in two different cities hasn’t been easy. Although the range has been given them lots of opportunity and a larger client pool.
And, of course, there’s the financial aspect—startup costs and funding has been challenging, but they’re starting to see a return on their investment.
The learning curve was steep, especially narrowing down their niche. There are so many things they’re passionate about, but had to focus on what they could specialize in.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the core, SRA Media specializes in producing short films and docuseries. They help businesses, artists, and individuals tell their stories. That’s the mission, to amplify voices and share unique narratives.
What sets them apart is that they focused on supporting local businesses and communities. They’re not aiming for big corporate clients; they want to be the ones who help you time capsule your life, your work, your art.
They’re proud of the diverse portfolio They have built in a short time, events, articles, photography, short films—they have covered a lot of ground. And they’re here to help others grow. You can trust them with your vision.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
“ If we define luck as “opportunity meets preparation,” then luck has definitely played a role.” For example, our meeting was a big moment of serendipity.
“We’ve also been lucky to attend some incredible events, which have expanded our opportunities and connections.”
