Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamereona White.
Hi Tamereona, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tamereona White I am 23 years old & I am a professional stylist. My hometown is Sarasota Fl, this is where I grew up and experienced most of my huge life changing moments. I grew up poor living from house to house with different family members until my mom was in a place where she was stable enough to get her own home. When I was 13 years old I found out I was pregnant with my first child and I had him when I turned 14. At this time we didn’t have our own place we lived with a relative and I remember sleeping in a full sized blow up bed with my mom, my little sister & my 3 month old son. Being a mother at such an early age presented a lot of challenges for me. I dealt with depression and suicide for years of my life. I graduated in 2017 from Riverview High School in Sarasota Fl. After high school my life took an unexpected turn and I battled suicide and depression so aggressively leading up to 2018. That’s what pushed me to get closer to God and to see what it was that he had specifically for me and my son’s life. In 2018, God started giving me business ideas out of nowhere. He began to tell me that he wanted me to go in business for myself and he started telling me all the talents I possessed. In 2020 when COVID came I was laid off of my job and put on bed rest due to having a high-risk pregnancy. I remember praying and God telling me to begin planning things to get ready to start my own business so I did but he never gave me instructions to do anything at that time. After I had my baby I started looking for another job but the Lord told me he didn’t want me to work for anyone else he wanted me to go into business for myself. On August 24th,2020 I went into business doing hair, makeup & I sold eyelashes. Little by little God began to elevate me he started with me having to build my own website from scratch, then after that it was him adding on to the services I would provide for others & lastly it was him putting me in a salon to be able to provide quality professional services to many women and children. All of the things that I am currently doing he told me beforehand that I would. I’m so blessed to know that God is not a liar & he is still moving currently in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road wasn’t always smooth for me being in business for myself because there were many things I had to learn in a short amount of time. One of the struggles I faced early on was balancing being a single mom of two kids and being a business owner. It wasn’t always easy to find the balance but God began to lead me on how to do things so that I could spend time being a mother and also run a professional business. Another struggle I began to face was comparing myself and my work to other stylists, I had to learn that what works for everybody doesn’t work for me. Once I became comfortable and confident in the lane God placed me in I began to excel. Another struggle I faced was how to price my services simply because since I grew up poor I wanted to make sure I was affordable for moms who were going through the struggle trying to raise their children. I have always had the heart to help people so for a long time, I didn’t price my services the way that I knew God wanted me to but once I gave God full control of my prices, my clientele increased like never before.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hairstylist, MUA & upcoming nail tech. Blessed looks offer a variety of services for women and children. I specialize in braiding services. Most of my clients come to book me for Knotless braids, everyone loves my knotless and I love to do them. Beyond everything else that I offer, doing knotless braids gives me peace. What sets Blessed Looks apart from others is what God brings to the atmosphere of my establishment. Most people go get their hair done and they’re having a hard time in life and they don’t get to talk about it or receive anything that will truly change what they’re going through. Being able to talk to my clients and pray with them or give them anything God desires for them to have is what sets me apart from others and what I’m most proud of concerning Blessed Looks. I am still working toward many goals but if I had to choose something I was most proud of in my current season it would be that my business brand had come a very long way. I worked from scratch to build all my website graphics with only help from God now my website looks so good to me I am fully pleased with it for the first time in a long time.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years Lord willing I want to be in a place where I can give back and also help women of all ages to pursue their dreams even if it doesn’t have anything to do with hair. I desire to be able to fund scholarships for people to go to college or to do whatever it is that God has predestined them to do. God has given everyone gifts and talents to be able to do what he has created them to do I just want to help people gain confidence in who they are as a person and also provide as much as possible to aid them in what they want to do.
