Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Scalera of Integral Renovations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Scalera

Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was in college, I was a division 1 athlete for the University of South Carolina Upstate. At this time in my life it completely consumed all of my time. Being a college athlete was my entire identity and looking ahead, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career. I was going to school to study Exercise Science, however there was always a gray area for me and I self consciously knew this was not going to be a future I would enjoy.

As my time in college came to an end, I accepted an internship for a position that followed the path of exercise science. Just as I expected, I found out very early on that this was not a life style I wanted to pursue. I knew I needed to find something new.

I started thinking of how much I thrived when I was an athlete. I used to feed my energy off of competition, passion, and having a winning mentality. How could I find that same energy in my every day career?

Seeking opportunity, I soon found a in-person sales position to be an estimator for a handyman start-up company in Atlanta.

The perks that attracted me:

-I didn’t have to be in an office every day
-I would be interacting with new people in their homes
-Fast pace
– Most importantly, there was sales competition

I made no salary, there was absolutely no financial comfortability, and my pay going to fully based on performance. This was everything society told me not to do straight out of college, but I was all in.

This was ultimately the best decision I ever made. I had a lot to learn in this industry if I was going to succeed. Overtime, I found myself gaining moment and eventually became our company’s top sales rep within a year. The adrenaline I got from this role made me fall in love with it, and made me want to take it further.

As a start up, we faced a lot of challenges, and it seemed like the owner would make drastic changes in the way we ran our operations very often. During these changes, I was see people around me drop like flies and new faces would then replace their positions. I guess if you get too comfortable, change for some people can be a lot to take in.

The most important thing I ever learned during this time was how to adapt. I didn’t care what changes came or how inconvenient it was to relearn. I took the change, and adapted to it as quick as possible every single time,

Over the next 6 years with this company I found myself with many promotions into various roles:
-Leading sales teams
-Business development
-Regional Management

After 2 years of opening a top performing market in Northern Virginia, my greatest promotion was on year 4 when I became Vice President.

Today:

After six years, I channeled my expertise into founding Integral Renovations, and committed to delivering exceptional, and fairly-priced home renovation services. Leading a team of top-tier professionals, I ensures every project prioritizes quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
-Building a team for my business was the biggest struggle early on. There are so many ups and downs in finding those A+ players that you ultimately want to be apart of your team for the long run. The hardest part in the beginning is building a strong foundation.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My main advice is to Never stop building a strong network and always prioritize your health. It took too long to realize that doing everything on my own wasn’t healthy or going to last.

– Be selective with who you hire
– Hire people that are strong where you are weak
– Take care of your health and wellness
