Community Highlights: Meet Tenecia Whitehead of It’s A Keything

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenecia Whitehead.

Hi Tenecia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am the proud mother of a four-year-old boy (he just turned four on April 19th, 2023), and the proud owner of my business “It’s A Keything, LLC” In my spare time, I enjoy making videos on social media, reading, and spending time with my son. 2019 I began searching for DIY hobbies on social media, and YouTube. In searching I came across letter keychains. After doing the research, I got the materials that I needed and began to play with it. Before selling the keychains, my best friend purchased one and my mom purchased one. I informed them to let me know if they bend, cracks, or etc before I start selling them. During the summer I began to promote the keychains on Facebook. Little did I know, it was a HUGE success. By having numerous of orders, around the beginning of 2020, I opened up an Etsy account.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The BIGGEST challenged I’ve faced, was losing my late husband (Lil Nick’s Dad) on September 21, 2021. His death was unexpected so that was even worse. Only thing I could think about was being a single parent to my son and him growing up so young without a father. From losing a spouse, what I’ve learned is that you have to take things one day at the time. This ordeal has also taught me that I have to hustle even harder for myself and my son. I took 2 months off from my keychains, and got back at it. I applied to become a seller on Wal-Mart and on Amazon. It took steps but I was able to become a seller on both. Currently I am on Amazon it took a lot of time but I finally got there.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As stated previously, I am the  owner of a small business called “It’s A Keything, LLC “where I hand-make resin letter keychains and accessories. These keychains are made from non toxic epoxy resin. The accessories include handmade lash trays, clip boards, hair clips, and more. I am currently on Amazon Seller Central, Jane Marketplace, and Etsy. To obtain orders, I promote on social media, word of mouth, and business cards. I have a variety of styles to fit everyone needs. My prices starts at $6.00 and up.,

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I really don’t have a favorite childhood memory. I mainly got ALMOST ever
