In the early 2000s, I moved to Atlanta, GA, with my husband and our two young kids, ready to start a new chapter in a vibrant and growing city. What began as an exciting change quickly turned into a place we would call home, filled with opportunities, culture, and a thriving food scene that would shape my journey. With a deep passion for hospitality, I found my calling in the restaurant industry, where I’ve spent over 20 years honing my craft, creating memorable dining experiences, and learning the ins and outs of the business.
Beyond my career, I am an avid world traveler with an insatiable love for food, and Japan holds a special place in my heart. Exploring new destinations isn’t just about sightseeing for me—it’s about immersing myself in local flavors, traditions, and the people who make every meal special. From the bustling ramen shops of Tokyo to the serene kaiseki meals in Kyoto, Japan’s dedication to craftsmanship and culinary artistry never ceases to inspire me. Whether I’m savoring fresh sushi at a hidden omakase spot or enjoying a simple bowl of udon at a local eatery, I believe food is the best way to connect with people and cultures. Nothing brings me more joy than sharing incredible meals with locals and bringing those inspirations back to my own kitchen and work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a fast-casual restaurant like Tenya came with its share of challenges, from curating the perfect menu to finding the ideal location. We spent countless hours researching and testing recipes, ensuring each dish was not only authentic and flavorful but also aligned with our vision of providing healthy, affordable meals. Balancing quality with accessibility was no easy feat, but our dedication to crafting a menu that resonated with our diners kept us pushing forward. Finding the right location was another hurdle—we wanted a space that felt welcoming and accessible while being part of a vibrant community. After months of searching and careful consideration, we found our home in Decatur, GA, where we could bring our passion for Japanese cuisine to life. Every obstacle along the way only strengthened our commitment to creating a dining experience that blends comfort, quality, and authenticity.

Rooted in the personal experience of Chef Thresia Wiguna, Tenya was founded with the vision of modern fast-casual dining that blends quality with convenience. Partnering with Chef Keiko Kajino, they crafted a unique concept focused on simple yet authentic Japanese cuisine. After nearly two years of dedicated research and development to perfect rich and flavorful ingredients, we are proud to finally open our doors in Decatur, GA.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
In the bustling streets of Osaka in the early 80s, I remember a small, unassuming eatery nestled between towering buildings. It wasn’t extravagant, nor did it have a flashy sign to draw people in. But it didn’t need one. What made it special was the warm, inviting atmosphere and, most of all, the ever-present smile of the woman behind the counter.
Every day, I watched as locals and travelers alike stepped inside, welcomed by the comforting aroma of freshly made tempura, the gentle clatter of chopsticks against ceramic bowls, and the kind, familiar voice of the owner. But what I remember most was her smile—genuine, unwavering, and filled with warmth. It wasn’t just about the food; it was about the experience, the feeling of belonging, of being home, even in the middle of a busy city.
That small shop was more than just a place to eat—it became a cherished memory, one that stayed with me for years. The simple act of hospitality, the joy of sharing a meal, and the dedication to serving others left a lasting mark on my heart.
