Community Highlights: Meet Tiera Page of InterLOCd Melanin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiera Page.

Hi Tiera, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been doing hair since high school, even though for a long time I didn’t believe it was truly my calling. I loved it, but I didn’t see it as my future. After graduating, I went to college for anthropology with dreams of becoming a forensic anthropologist or medical examiner. As time went on, medical school no longer felt realistic, and my path shifted. I became an EMT, still driven by a desire to help and serve others.
Everything changed one day while I was doing a friend’s hair. In that moment, something clicked—I realized I was going to be great at doing locs. Word started to spread quietly. A few friends began asking me to do their hair from time to time, and before I knew it, my passion was pulling me back in.
During the COVID pandemic, after being quarantined for a few months, I decided to take a leap of faith and officially start my business. At the time, I didn’t have clients—just a couple of friends and my brother who trusted me with their hair. One day, I reposted an appreciation post, and within 24 hours, people were requesting appointments. What started small quickly grew into something I never imagined.
Seven years later, my business is still flourishing. I’m grateful beyond words—for God, for my clients, and for everyone who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. This journey has shown me that sometimes your purpose finds you, even when you think you’re headed in a completely different direction.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like any journey, there were highs and there were lows. There were moments of uncertainty, moments where I questioned myself, and times when I didn’t fully know or honor my worth. But through it all, I’ve always felt covered by God. Even in the challenging seasons, He was in control, guiding and protecting me every step of the way.
One of the biggest blessings along the way has been my clients. I’m beyond grateful for how flexible, understanding, and supportive they’ve been—they really rock with me heavy. In moments when I doubted myself, my clients consistently showed up, not just by booking appointments, but by reminding me of my value and the gift I carry. They helped me see what I sometimes couldn’t see on my own.

While there were struggles, the journey has been overwhelmingly positive. Every low taught me something, every high reminded me why I started, and through it all, God has remained at the center. I’m thankful for the growth, the lessons, and the community that continues to uplift and support me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about InterLOCd Melanin?
My business is rooted in care, consistency, and community. I specialize in loc services, and I’m especially known for my attention to detail, healthy loc practices, and the ability to truly see and honor each client’s hair journey. Whether someone is starting their locs, maintaining them, or restoring their hair, I approach every head with intention, patience, and respect.
What sets me apart is the experience. I don’t rush the process, I focus heavily on hair health, education, and creating a safe, welcoming space where clients feel comfortable and can relax. Many of my clients have been with me for years, and that trust means everything to me.

I’m most proud of the community I have. My business grew organically through word of mouth, consistency, and God’s favor. I relied on showing up, doing quality work, and letting my integrity speak for itself. The loyalty of my clients is a reflection of that, and it’s something I never take for granted.

I stand for excellence, authenticity, and faith. Every service I offer is done with purpose and passion, and my goal is always to help clients feel confident, cared for, and proud of their hair. This isn’t just a business to me—it’s a gift, and I’m honored to walk it out every day.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was naturally curious and observant. I’ve always been detailed oriented and liked understanding how all things worked—especially people. I could be quiet and focused, but also warm, expressive. I’m a Libra so there’s balance somewhere. I’m passionate about everything I do. I like having purpose behind whatever I do.
As a child i aspired to become a medical doctor. I was drawn to the human body, culture, and service, which led me to study anthropology, become an EMT, and eventually grow into my role as a nurse. Caring for people has always been at the core of who I am, whether in healthcare or in hair.

Creativity was always present too. I was in the orchestra for a while, I danced for a while, I liked to draw, I am a crafter and diver, some would say I’m a jack of all trades. Doing hair came naturally to me from a young age. At the time, I didn’t realize how much those early interests would shape my future.

Looking back now, it all makes sense. My curiosity, creativity, and heart for service have followed me into every season of my life. Being both a nurse and a loctician allows me to care for people in different but equally meaningful ways, and I can see how I was being prepared for this path long before I knew it.
