Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonika Snow-Anderson.
Tonika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Such an interesting journey. I actually went to school to become a social worker and enjoyed that field. After several years, I decided that I wanted to get involved in the flipping homes business. The eventually led me to be interested in the entire process of remodeling and designing home interiors. That led me to starting my company. What I thought would be a hobby turned into much more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth. I am in a male-dominated industry, and I have to fight daily to gain respect from both my counterparts and clients that don’t necessarily look like me.
I am challenged because I am a woman, and then I am second-guessed because I’m a Black Woman!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Magnolia Home Decor?
We treat clients like family. I love the fact that they appreciate my hands-on approach with every consultation. We are known for being a one-stop shop that offers flooring, countertops, tile, cabinets, installation and design.
It’s important to know that we have a fully knowledgeable staff, and your customer care representative will be there to assist you from the beginning of your project through the completion.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Learn the people that are succeeding in your industry. Get to know them, and when you meet one that you feel would be a good match for your personality, goals, and industry standards, ask them to mentor you. It’s important to understand that you don’t have to invent the wheel when it comes to networking. You can improve the wheel to fit your needs.
