Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrik Wynn.
Tyrik, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At 14 years old in 2014, I wrote my 1st book, “Green Is The Thing! Money Management For Kids.” The purpose of this book was to teach kids how to make, save and manage their money at a young age because I was taught this at a young age. Nowadays, the school systems are lacking financial literacy, which is a problem. I wanted to be part of the solution. My mom had already written two books herself, so I had tons of help from her. When I published, the books tons of media outlets continued to reach out to bring me on their platforms to do interviews, so that’s when I had my first press tour. When I was getting invited to do all these interviews, that’s how I got the “media bug.” I started watching the news regularly, watching talks shows and more, and that’s when I realized I wanted to be a TV personality.
In August of 2016, my parents and I were in the car, and I said to them, “I want to create my own show, so let’s go to NBC, CBS, ABC and tell them to make me a show.” My parents told me that, unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. They informed me that I should start on YouTube and get discovered from there. A few weeks later, I set up a small tripod and a small Nikon camera and began to film myself talking. It took a lot of takes to get it halfway decent. I decided to name the show “Tyrik On The Move.” My first guest was actually my mom, and I interviewed her about her books. I continued to do more episodes, and then I landed my 1st paid gig. I was asked to come and interview various authors at an author showcase event. That’s when I realized I can start making money off of my show and I made a few dollars here and there. At 1st my show was lacking viewership, and I realized I needed to change up some things, so I had the amazing idea to start interviewing celebrities on my show. I have had the amazing pleasure of interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris, Congressman John Lewis, Tony Gonzalez, Judge Lauren Lake, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, RHOA’s Cynthia Bailey, Boxer Gervonta Tank Davis, Anthony Hamilton RHOA’s Kandi Burruss, Drew Brees, Andrew Yang, BNC’s & RHOA’s Mike Hill, BNC’s Sharon Reed, Sierra McCormick and so many more. Bringing on these amazing celebrities has helped the show grow tremendously and I can’t thank them enough.
In 2017, I got really passionate about being a news anchor/reporter and I actually tried to get a job at some of the major news stations here in Atlanta, but they informed me that I could not work there because I was still in high school and I didn’t have experience. Since they told me no, I went and created my own news broadcast called “TW News.” I would go around town, report on various stories, and come back home and anchor my own newscast for the show. When I was doing this, I was the anchor, a reporter, the meteorologist, the producer and everything else in between.
My parents noticed that I was very passionate about all of this, and they said when I turned 18, we would turn all of this into a business. In December of 2018, we created Wynn Productions LLC. At 1st Wynn Productions was only a production company that taped “Tyrik On The Move.” After we created the company, our 1st credentialed event was Super Bowl 53 and the Lord continued to bless us from there.
Over the past few years, Wynn Productions LLC has come a very long way. Now at Wynn Productions, we specialize in professional videography services, which are TV Commercials, Customer Testimony Videos, Video Business Cards, Drone/Aerial Filming, Television Shows, Event Filming, and more. The purpose of people using our services is so they can grow their business and get tons of exposure. We also produce our own shows, those shows are: Tyrik On The Move, The Sugar Tooth Show, What’s Your Business, The Fun Adventures Show and more coming soon. Right now, Wynn Productions goals are to get all of the shows we tape and produce on major television networks and streaming platforms and to open up our own studio and office space and we are believing God for these things.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy at all. There have been lots of stressful moments, lots of disappointments and lots of obstacles, but by the grace of God, I have overcome them. For example, at first, when I was trying to get celebrity interviews, all of their publicists kept telling me no because my audience was not big enough and so lots of people would never give me a chance, but in the end, the Lord led me to reach out to the right people and apply for credentials to the right event and now it’s pretty easy for me to get celebrity interviews.
Also, when I was first trying to get credentialed for events I couldn’t get into many things because of my age and I didn’t have enough viewers on my platform, but the Lord has been such a blessing, none of those things play a factor anymore. I just turned 21 and now my numbers are soaring through the roof.
On the business side of things, when we first started doing video production, it was very hard to get clients to purchase our services and I would always have to reach out to people so they could purchase our services and support the business, and I kept getting no, not at this time, I’m not interested, etc. Now, the Lord has blessed us where we no longer have to reach out to anyone. Tons of customers come to us on a weekly basis to buy video production services.

No, we send the client their video for approval and allow the client to request edits and revisions because the client’s voice matters!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Everyone should always have a mentor. No matter how big you get or how knowledgeable you become, you will always need a mentor. I have come such a long way in my career because of all my mentors and they have helped me so much. As far as finding a mentor, first try to find one that is already in the career field you want to go in or someone who is doing exactly what you want to do.
For example, I want to be a talk show host, anchor/reporter, etc., so I reached out to tons of local TV talent right here in Metro Atlanta and I am connected with tons of them. Also, when it comes to finding a mentor, sometimes it only takes one good email. When they can see that you are passionate, they will take a like into you.
Also, don’t get discouraged if someone decide not to be your mentor because not everyone you reach out to is going to say yes and have time to be a mentor, so please keep that in mind.
