Today we’d like to introduce you to Vernon Jasmine Moreau.
Hi Vernon Jasmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My West Indian upbringing allowed me to be very versatile as an adult. I am a native of Dominica but was raised in the Virgin Islands. After graduating high school, I relocated to Brunswick, GA to obtain my CNA license. Not too long after I became an LPN and retired after 20 years of being in the nursing field. In 2016, I opened Fashion Stop which was a clothing store that sold various items, the pandemic hit four years later, and I was forced to close my doors.
While trying to figure out what’s my next move, I was offered a job as a project manager. A year later, I became the operations manager for an insulation company. I LOVED my role so much that I helped the company become a multi-million dollar company but something came over me as if I wasn’t fulfilling my purpose. I was no longer appreciated at the job, so I began searching for another opportunity. One day scrolling through Facebook, I saw my cousin that I lost contact with more than 20 years ago posting about SGL Tribe. I made contact and inquired about the different levels she was posting about, and that’s when the opportunity arise about becoming a DOT collector. My cousin, Toia Wallace, who is now my Coach, pitched to launch your lab in 30 days. Well, God had a different plan, and we accomplished this in a week.
At first, we were offering mobile services before we found the ideal location. That’s right, True Results Diagnostics opened its doors on September 9, 2021, we are located at 146 Railroad St., Suite B, Thomason, GA 30824. At this moment, everything became surreal, my emotions were to the roof. This is personal for me because I grew up around drug addicts, my mom being one herself. The more knowledgeable I became, the more I am able to educate others on the effect of drugs and what it does to the body. Fentanyl is sweeping our community and taking way too many lives, opening my lab is a medium to help people and keep the workplace drug-free and safe. I now offer free drug testing to all teenagers from ages 12 to 19 every Friday.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming an entrepreneur is definitely not for the weak, the road was bumpy. At first, I struggled to get clients, I had zero marketing skills and used most of my savings to keep the lab above water. My coach did surprise accountability calls and I had expressed some of my struggles, immediately she introduced other streams of income that I was able to learn and implement into my business. First, I added fingerprint/background checks and before you know it, I was offering cosmetic teeth whitening services as well. We dealt with angry clients who didn’t feel they needed to be drug tested as well as employers not paying invoices. Not having clients for weeks at a time almost made me want to give up but the go-getter in me did NOT allow it. As long as you are self-motivated and disciplined, you can achieve your goals.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
That even in the crisis we stood firm pushing through. We have to walk by faith even when we haven’t seen the rainbow. Giving up is not an option being an entrepreneur is more to do with being disciplined above all things. we have to start planning for better financial stability and accountability.
