Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Leathers.
Hi Victor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working for a valet company in college and continued post-college. Worked my way into management and one day decided to go into business for myself one day after a very inspirational conversation with my barber. Now five years later, MJL is still alive and doing well.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Some struggles I’ve had as an entrepreneur are one lack of resources in the beginning. Not having what I needed to scale my business. I struggled with finding good people to work my business, I couldn’t be everywhere at once or do everything. I needed staff, finding good people was tough and still is, honestly but I’ve managed to find those who wanted it needed work and were great team member. I also struggled with learning the business side of the business. I knew the operation side very well. A few years in, I met an individual who had the same business as me and became my mentor and we also did business together. He offered me so much advice and mentorship, I can really give him so much praise and flowers while he’s still here. He really helped take my mindset to Another level.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mjl Parking is a parking management company that caters to the Atlanta area currently but will definitely be expanding soon. We provide valet parking, self-parking, garage and surface lot management. I started this business to leave a legacy for my kids and named it after them. M=Mya, J=Javoni, L=Leathers==MJL, Parking my goal is to be able to hire them. Allow them to learn the business and then let them run it. With us being a family-owned business, we can get things done faster than the major companies in the market. We also believe that our staff is our biggest asset. We are always thinking of ways to improve things for the staff and reward them for their great efforts.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck hasn’t any play a role in my business. I believe in faith and hard work. I don’t feel like I was lucky to get a contract or close a deal. I feel blessed.
