Community Highlights: Meet Victoria Antonelli of A Breath of Sage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Antonelli.

Hi Victoria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my mindfulness journey in 2017, shortly after moving to Los Angeles. Several months into experimenting with meditation and daily journaling, I got an email about a monthly breathwork/meditation ceremony at the acting studio I attended. I had no idea what to expect, but followed my impulse and signed up. As someone who struggled with anxiety, shallow breathing, and sometimes not breathing at all, I figured breathwork could help. When the breathwork portion of the ceremony began, I felt resistance come up. I fidgeted and struggled to maintain the technique. But once I gave in, I had a crazy, enlightening experience. I envisioned my childhood dog, Cece, and felt her lay on my stomach. I listened as others screamed and moaned, eventually gathering the courage to chime in. I cried about things I didn’t even know were bothering me. And afterwards, I felt light, elated, and relaxed. Within 30 minutes, I achieved a type of calm I had yet to invoke with meditation (meditation is amazing, but it can take time to notice an effect).

For the next several years, I continued attending these events and exploring other types of breathwork. I felt inclined to share this life-changing practice with others, so I decided to become a breathwork facilitator.

In 2021, shortly after relocating to Atlanta, I became certified virtually through Breathe with JP, Jon Paul Crimi’s breathwork studio in Los Angeles. And the rest is history! I now offer Zoom group classes and privates, a weekly in-person class at Giving Tree Yoga in Smyrna, and pop-ups throughout Atlanta.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had to face a lot of self-doubt, anxiety, worrying about what others would think, and more before committing to a breathwork facilitator certification. And when I finally did sign up for one of Jon Paul Crimi’s in-person breathwork courses, it was in March 2020. So yeah, that got canceled. I really wanted to be in person with JP, but after a year of lockdowns, followed by a cross-country move to Georgia, virtual certification became the best and only option. I started watching the videos in March 2021 and truly enjoyed every minute of it. However, resistance and procrastination kicked in, and I didn’t end up finishing Basics & One-On-One and How to Lead Couples & Groups (the two courses required for certification) until September 2021. By that point, I knew I needed outside help if I was truly going to launch a breathwork business. So, I hired Jadonna Williams as a financial / business coach. I honestly could not have done it without her. I launched my business in October, and even though I had my growing pains at the beginning (like canceling classes due to no signups), I feel I’ve come a long way fairly quickly!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about A Breath of Sage, LLC?
With the power of breath, I help people connect to their intuition, step into their power, and release old stories, self-doubt, and other external forces blocking them from who they truly are and what they deeply desire.
Breathwork is an umbrella term for breathing techniques that allow you to release emotional blocks, cultivate focus, strengthen your respiratory system, connect you to your body and intuition, aid digestion, manage stress, and more.

Most people are familiar with Ujjayi Pranayama – the breathing technique used in yoga practice. However, the technique I teach is a bit different.

Conscious Connected Breathing is a 3 part breath — 2 inhales and 1 exhale — all through the mouth while lying down. I have clients hold this pattern for 28 minutes, followed by an 8 minute meditation. The active breath pattern aims to recalibrate the nervous system, while the meditation allows for processing and assimilation back into reality.

Every class starts with housekeeping, followed by some short grounding practices, which leads into the breathwork and ending with a meditation and reading. Session typically last 50-55 minutes, depending on questions, etc.

Participants must sign a waiver before beginning.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Conscious Connected Breathing has changed my life. It has been an absolute honor to share it with people. It truly feels like I’ve found my purpose, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead.
I currently teach every Sunday at 11am at Giving Tree Yoga in Smyrna. I also offer Zoom group classes and privates.
