Community Highlights: Meet Wesley Whitsett of Whitsett Designs DBA Wesdoesit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Whitsett.

Hi Wesley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from High Point NC, went to
Art Institute of Atlanta c/o ’94. I worked as a roofer during college to pay for classes. After college I was a freelance photographer, illustrator, and worked briefly at an ad agency. That’s where I learned I didn’t like to design other people’s ideas. So I went back to construction and learned to frame houses, eventually learning each trade involved in homebuilding. After 10 years of various apprenticeships, I started my own remodeling and design company.

I’ve been in business now for 20+ years, turning investment properties into money and personal homes into manifested dreams. I love helping people establish value and comfort in their homes, through good design and skillful execution.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I grew up in a racially charged southern town. Once I was 18 and moved to Atlanta, I never felt a limitation on anything.

Opportunities available to Black people here were unlike any I’d ever seen. Here, hard work can get you something. There are always struggles. Always a load to bear. But my old wrestling coach would just call that “leg day.” We push on and we get where we’re going. To stop me, a person would have to outwork me — and nobody has that kind of time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Whitsett Designs DBA Wesdoesit?
I consult on, design, and remodel real estate. I specialize in adding monetary value through my 30 years as a student of Atlanta’s real estate market. My education in design, drafting, and building gives my clients not only a home they can enjoy, but one that has gained real value. My goal is to use this education to offer financial freedoms to our communities.

I also manage a fun YouTube channel #Wesdoesit, where I teach about home improvement, woodworking, and tools.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the presence of minority achievement all around me.
If we could figure out the traffic situation in this city, I could save a couple grand per month on gas! Old Chevy trucks drink alot of gas.
