Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Humphrey.
Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I guess you could say I’ve started this journey at three years old. I started learning how to do hair. I was always twisting my dolls’ hair but I wanted to learn how to braid. Then one day, from seeing my big brother do a plait, I instantly picked it up. The rest is history. God has blessed me with many talents such as being musically inclined. I started singing at age 3, playing around with the piano around 5, and writing songs at 8. I got my first drum set on my 13th birthday and eventually started producing at 14. My mom was my first music teacher. I can remember her always telling me to ennounciate my words, making me sing the songs over and on. Lol. My father ended up getting me piano lessons when I was 15. It’s funny because, one day my dad asked me if I wanted to take piano lessons, and I said no. A couple days later, he came up to me and said, ‘By the way, you have piano lessons tomorrow.’ I was so confused and annoyed because I didn’t want them but, I thank God he made me anyway. I attended Oakwood University and obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Composition & Recording Arts, May 2018.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I was selling foil rings as a kid. Now I’m selling hair products, doing hair, a full-time musician, with a clothing company in the works. It’s eye-opening to see how God orders your steps. It’s not to boast but just a testament of how good God is. I’m nowhere near perfect. I believe that there should always be room for growth. I got to where I am today with hard work, consistent dedication, patience, people praying for me, and God’s strength. I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported and continues to show love towards me and my brand. Without your support, there’s no way I’d be able to get this far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has most definitely NOT been a smooth road. Lol. I wish. Some of the struggles I faced were staying positive, especially once real life problems hit, procrastinating, being consistent, and definitely learning to keep my mouth shut. It seemed like every time I opened my mouth on future plans, etc., there was always some sort of delay before it actually happened. I still struggle with waking up earlier so I can be just a bit more productive but, I’m constantly working at it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I am a full-time entrepreneur. I play piano for a church on Sundays. When I’m not in rehearsal, I’m doing hair or making a beat. If none of those are taking place, I’m probably working on my brand. I specialize in doing hair, locs, cornrows, and haircuts to be specific. I’m known for doing hair and music. I’m most proud of my brand, Black Educated Entrepreneur. B.e.e. isn’t just a clothing line or some cool saying to me. It’s in actuality my lifestyle. I am a proud black educated woman with multiple streams of income. What sets me apart from others is my versatility. You can’t compare me to such and such because I’m doing my own thing. I’m never trying to be like the next trendy thing because I’m content and happy with the lane God has created just for me.
What’s next?
My plans for the future would start with hiring a team, get a warehouse and build a multi-billionaire company that blesses the community and others in need.
