Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Carter.

Alexandria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been a very artistic and creative person but it took me some time to discover makeup was my passion. I spent most of my adolescent years as a professional ballerina, fashion designer, and a baker. None of them seem to be my calling. As I graduated high school and went off to college, I began playing around in makeup and just having fun with it. Soon, I realized that makeup was something that I truly enjoyed doing and brought me pure joy. In 2014 in ended up getting a job working at Clinique and within less than a year, I received a permanent position working for MAC Cosmetics. Once I got the job at MAC, I knew this was my calling. I spent four years with the company. Those four years taught me so much and allowed me to practice my skill and gain professional experience that has carried into my own business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about my journey was easy. A lot of people look at popular makeup artists and think the road was easy. It was far from it. I struggled in the beginning, the business did not take off as quickly as I thought it would. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy thing. The best advice I can give someone wanting to start their own business no matter what your business is is to be patient and don’t give up. It is always hard in the beginning and you might feel like you aren’t getting anywhere but keep at it, it will all pay off in the end. Ignore the haters and the neigh sayers because you will have plenty but what is for you is for you and no-one can take that from you.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a professional traveling Makeup Artist. I have done makeup for fashion shows, album covers, appearances, photoshoots, performances, and television. I pride myself on being extremely professional and providing my clients with a clean and positive environment. Getting your makeup done by me is an experience and will be memorable. My desire is to make anyone who sits in my chair to feel comfortable and to leave looking good and feeling great from the inside out. I want to make everyone feel beautiful and confident.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I grew up watching my mom do her makeup. I use to get into her makeup bag and play in her makeup up until I was able to buy my own makeup. It was something that always was interesting to me and now, I look back and realize how much of an impact those childhood experiences with my mom influenced my future.
