Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayuanna Jazzel.
Ayuanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
NEIBORS (pronounced Neighbors) Consulting derived from my experience working within media and entertainment. It was developed to connect creatives to the right processes and resources that will further enable them to forge their way into society.
Within my undergraduate at Spelman College, my profound passion for assisting those within media and entertainment ignited when I was a promotions intern at a Chicago-based radio station called, Power92. As time progressed, I began venturing out to interviewing local creatives throughout the Chicago-land and Atlanta Metro areas. With interviewing, I realized that there is a lot of talent that goes unacknowledged due to the lack of resources and/or connections. As a result, I developed a platform called AWashTV, to showcase established and rising talents. Soon after, this opened the door for me to work with highly recognized industry influencers.
With all things that come to an end, I graduated from Spelman College and begin working as a consultant for various companies that were not suitable nor aligned with my passion and/or interests. As a result, I begin applying to world-renowned media and entertainment companies but was rejected. My thoughts were, how could this be? I have the education, experience, knowledge, and skills, but similar to those creatives, I lacked the right resources and/or connections. Ultimately, the rejections kindled a fire in me to help those that share similar experiences forge their way into society. From that point, NEIBORS Consulting was developed.
Through our experiences, passion, interests, and/ or skills, we are all connected through a community. We are NEIBORS, and Together We Forge Entry!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been challenging, yet rewarding. The challenges is that one will encounter many obstacles and it’s up to them to overcome, rather than succumb.
I’ve experienced self- doubt, by enabling those who have not experienced nor understand my journey and/or vision, place their limitations on my shared thoughts, ideas and/or dreams. I’ve also experienced trusting the process within my journey. I’ve experienced fear of taking risks.
Soon after, I had to realize that my thoughts, ideas, and dreams were given to me from a higher power, and it was meant for me! I was provided a gift to see the invisible so that I can do the impossible. But in order to have done that I had to believe in myself, have faith, and trust my journey. Along the way, I had to learn to embrace being a risk-taker. To live is the risk of dying, so why not take a risk that will further get you closer to what you want to be and do in life?
Once I overcame those barriers, it became rewarding as I began investing in myself and acknowledging the power I possessed with believing in myself and the work I was doing to make my thoughts, ideas, and dreams realizable.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a consultant, who has a passion for helping my NEIBORS see their uniqueness and value, whether through brand strategy, social responsibility or technology. As a consultant, I equip my NEIBORS with the essential resources and tools that will enable them to forge their way into society.
I am proud that my brand is multifaceted. We not only do we consult, but we have a not-for-profit organization titled, NEIBORS Academy, who is dedicated to empowering and preparing at-risk youth for opportunities in Business through training, mentorship, and exposure. With NEIBORS Academy, we provide education, scholarships, mentorships, and service/sustainable initiatives.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most imperative advice I would provide is to take risks. “It is better to aim too high and miss, rather than aim too low, and hit.”
