Conversations with the Inspiring Brooke Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Phillips.

Brooke, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My creative journey started when I decided to start bullet journaling. Ever since I was young, I have wanted to be creative and artistic but I always thought of it as something that you had or didn’t have. When I started journaling, I started experimenting with art and doodling and as with anything I got better with practice. I made an Instagram become a part of the bullet journaling community there and somehow grew a following. It was fun to connect with others and shocking to get questions about how I journal. It was after I realized I grew and changed and learned how to be a creative person that I started my blog. I write about self-improvement and try to make overwhelming life-changing topics simple. After teaching myself how to be creative through journaling, I started being creative and changing in other aspects of my life as well. My blog is mostly about helping young women like me who struggle to see a life path that will make them happy and helping them to make changes.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have a lot of privileges that others don’t. I realized early on that I didn’t like where I was headed so I am young and have a lot more wiggle room to change. I also have financial help from my parents and I attend an amazing school just to learn things I am interested about. Having said all of that, I don’t believe any life-changing journey is smooth and definitely had my struggles. The biggest struggle of mine was accepting that I was capable of change. Especially in the school system nowadays we are told ‘you are good at math’ or ‘you are bad at English’ everything seems static-like we will always be good at math and we will never be good at English. When I realized I can be great at anything I wanted to be great at, my whole perspective changed. I felt as though a world of options was opened to me and that I had a chance at doing what made me happy, being creative. My advice for other young women is to have an open mindset and really think about whether you are making decisions based on what you enjoy or what you are good at. I would also like to remind others that you CAN be good at anything if you stay consistent and passionate.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I share my story online. On Instagram, I share my daily journal entries whether it’s my daily to-do list or I am planning for the week ahead. I include doodles and illustrations in my journal and remind my followers that anyone can be creative or ‘good’ at art. I also have a blog in which I go more in-depth about how to change your life through habits. I break huge life-changing topics down into simple doable steps that helped me when I was trying to achieve the same goals. I believe my mission and my background sets me apart from others, I had to learn how to be persistent and hard-working which in my opinion is one of the hardest things to learn.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
As a young woman just starting her career, I would say that I find peace in the unknown. When there are too much pressure and so many things you should be doing, it is helpful to just let go of what could happen and do what will happen in this current moment. Stay focused on the present to get to where you want to go in the future.
