Conversations with the Inspiring Connor Wiegand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Wiegand.

Connor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About seven years ago, I saw my first blogger. She was sharing her styling tips and lifestyle advice and I thought it was so interesting how she was managing herself as a brand. Coming from a marketing and advertising background, I thought it was genius since word-of-mouth is one of the best marketing tactics out there. I immediately wanted to give it a try – I could combine my marketing background, creativity, and writing to have my very own website and eventually start a business. Well, I didn’t have the confidence seven years ago and after talking through with some former friends, they too easily talked me out of it. It wasn’t till a few years after I graduated college when I saw more bloggers begin their journey that I pushed myself to give it a try and take risks.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I learned very quickly that it takes A LOT of time and hard work to really make a difference and stand out when blogging for your personal brand. It’s all been worth it to me because I’ve made lifelong friends and challenged myself to ultimately use new skillsets that I wouldn’t have elsewhere. I think the most difficult struggle is the stigma that comes with blogging. The industry is overly saturated with bloggers and Instagram models, which to those not in the industry can easily confuse the two and get frustrated believing it’s not authentic. My advice for anyone that wants to start is to really understand why you want to blog, always look for ways to innovate, and stay true to yourself. In the end, the ones that truly love blogging will stick it out and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of blogging and social media.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Right now, my blog focuses on fashion and lifestyle; with tips. However, I really want to start branching out to provide services such as personal styling and content management consultations. I already assist friends and family with their outfits, organizing their closets, and giving advice on branding for social media platforms, so why not leverage it for a business?

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Yes! The two apps that I mainly use are UNUM and Unfold. I use UNUM to plan out my content for a week or so in advance for an aesthetically pleasing creative flow. Unfold is my best friend for creating fun layouts for mainly Instagram Stories.

For inspiration, I love listening to entrepreneurs on podcasts (such as We Heard What) and looking at my favorite bloggers and Pinterest accounts.
