Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Jones.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cynthia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey began a little after I had my first son back in 2009. I was going through a separation with my husband, so I decided to relocate from Hawaii back to Germany where I was born and raised to live with my mother for some time. My son was about four months old. I felt pretty bad about myself, my situation and my body, so I decided to join a local gym. I committed to going at least 4-5 times a week. It took about two months for me to see the first little changes, which motivated me even more. The more my body changed, the more my attitude changed, things got exciting, within a few months, I started to change my looks, attitude, self-esteem and the way I chose to live life.
So, fast forward to a year later, I decided to move back to Hawaii and give my then marriage another try. I joined a local gym there and was amazed by what I was inteoduced too, ive never seen so many in shape people (lol) it motivated me to take Fitness and everything that comes with it more serious. I was amazed at how everything about me and around me changed. Of course, I wanted to share it with the world. I wanted every woman to feel what I felt, so I chose to get certified as a personal trainer back in 2011. But it wasn’t until I left Hawaii and moved to Columbus, GA end of 2011 where I started putting my certificate to use. I was hired at a local gym as a Personal Trainer and worked there for some time but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I decided to leave there and quickly realized I was back to square one working a dead end job. Here, I was a single mother living in the USA with little to no knowledge about anything trying to make ends meet, and ready to pack up and move back home to Germany with my mom, once again… that’s what I’ve always done, everytime things got hard,I ran back home to my mom. But I knew that this was not how things were supposed to go… in the midst of all the struggle and confusion about what’s next, I met the manager of GNC who knew I was into fitness. He told me that they were hiring and with my fitness background, I would be a good match. So, we set up an interview and he hired me on the spot.
After working there for a few weeks, I realized that this was the perfect environment to tell people about being a personal trainer (I didn’t give up on that part, just pushed it to the side for some time). I invested in some business cards made and started handing them out after helping people and knowing they were looking to make some changes. And like magic, I started getting my first few clients, I trained them on my days off, before or after work. Things got a bit hectic but I loved it. I trained people out of my living room and at the parks in the Columbus, Ga area. A few months in, I was able to hold my first early morning boot camp, knowing it wouldn’t interfere with my work schedule. After a year of managing work, training clients, going to the gym, managing my household and taking care of my son, I started feeling worn out. I wanted to quit my job but it was still my main source of income. But funny how things work a couple of months later, the entire staff was let go. I was devastated due to worrying about what I was going to do, where I was going to go and how my life was going to be, I cried all day. The next day when my mind got a bit more clear on what has happened,I laugh because here I was wanting to quit and now, I was forced to leave, I felt like I spoke it into existence. It took me a day or two to really look at the positive side of things. I was now able to fully focus on my clients and getting more clients while also receiving some type of unemployment which I would’ve never gotten if I would’ve just walked out. So, things weren’t so bad after all. I gave myself three months to build my clientele before I would start looking for another job. And with some trials and tribulations, I became the proud owner of Fabulously Fit. I am currently in my 4th year of having my all women’s fitness location. I have also started a supplement line called Slim Waist, which I hope to expand hopefully sooner than later.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been easy, I was a single mom, never out on my own before and in a country I wasn’t raised in. There were days I just cried because I knew things were not going as I wanted them too. Now that I am older and life has taught me a lot. I realized that things will never be easy if you are trying to consistently advance. Every new level brings a new devil, so the road to becoming successful is never going to be smooth.
I think one of my biggest struggles along the way was learning that peoples intentions aren’t always as good as you would want or accept them to be. And I think doubting myself and my own abilities. I’ve learned that life will NEVER be easy and it’s not meant to be. It’s all about learning how to deal with the things that are thrown at us while we are here. We all go through things, that is why it is so important to share your story with others, you never know who you might be helping with your story, inspiring others to push harder, motivating them to not quit. Don’t get discouraged, even when things get hard, often when a door closes or never opens, we have to have faith that there is something better and bigger for us in store. Don’t give up, because often our plans are a bit different from what God has in store for us. He doesn’t bring us to a certain point in life just to drop us like a hot potato, but he will often test us to see if we are ready for the next level in life. Keep your head high and your faith even higher. I am now seven months pregnant and I was stressed at the beginning of my pregnancy wondering if my clients would leave me, but my program only got more successful and I am happy to say tough times don’t last but tough people do.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Women’s Fitness and Health Coach, I help women with their fitness needs as well as introduce them to the right nutrition. I am currently working on my Holistic Nutritionist certificate, which I hope I will be able to finish after I give birth to my second son the end of May 2019. My workouts are created by me specifically and are a mix of weight training, bodyweight circuits, and yoga/pilates exercises. My workouts focus on shedding fat while keeping and enhancing our feminine features.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
We as women or even as humans in general, don’t know our power, We can do anything we put our mind to. We have to focus on the bigger picture and strive to reach our goals. Every day, there are new opportunities, we just have to spot them, if we are always so caught up with the easy quick fixes, we can miss out on the things that are meant to be good for us. Life often hits us unexpectedly, but it’s usually in our darkest moments where we find our hardest challenges, and that is where we are able to find our biggest blessings. We have to remember life is not easy and we will struggle at times. You have to crawl before you walk. We have to turn our negatives into a positive.
