Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Oves.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Currently, I am an instructor and the manager of both Stellar Bodies (locations in Buckhead and Midtown) and FIT9. About 7 years ago, I was working in medical sales which were meeting my needs financially but left me devoid of any passion or excitement. I decided to make a change in my life by getting my masters in public health, focusing on Healthcare Management and Policy. I wanted to focus my energy on changing the lives of others by fighting social disparities of all types. Throughout my time in school, I learned that there are many ways to exact change on others, big and small, including with a kind word, a small gesture, and encouragement through the toughest times. I started teaching at Stellar Bodies (classes on the Megaformer) around the time that I was finishing up with my masters, and I realized that everything I was looking for had already found me. My position has evolved and grown over time, but my mission and passion stay the same: everything I do is for the happiness of the client.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life, as a whole, will throw you every curve ball imaginable along the way. Completely changing my career in my thirties was just as challenging, as it was rewarding, as I put immense pressure on myself to succeed and uphold the highest standards of the business I represent. In addition, as a manager of other people, it is often a challenge to separate your relationship with those I manage and those who are my friends. True friends understand the duty of the position and respect you more for making tough decisions.
My advise to young women in similar situations is the following: never compromise your honor and integrity to please others. There will be many people that do not like you for no reason, and there is nothing you can do about it. Stay true to your values and you will become a stronger, more confident woman.
What should we know about Stellar Body Brands? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Stellar Body Brands is an umbrella brand that is comprised of Stellar Bodies (group/private fitness on the Megaformer and boutique), FIT9 (HIIT/Metcon training) and Eclipse 1on1 (personalized group and one-on-one training). Each studio within the Stellar Body Brands family is highly specialized, but they all strive for the most knowledgeable and personalized training offered in their field.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
For networking or mentoring to work, I think it is most important to analyze one’s personality first to find the right fit. I personally thrive in smaller groups or in a one-on-one setting with a mentor, so for me, smaller forums have garnered me the most success.
For those who derive their energy off of a crowd of others, larger networking events are best for them.
