Conversations with the Inspiring Elisabeth Keeter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisabeth Keeter.

Elisabeth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I went to Savannah college of art in design for illustration and a minor in drawing. I have worked with local companies to create images for patterns for fabric. I love art and wanted to create something people would use. patterns seemed like a good fit for me and could be put on everything, it’s really indicting. I always loved stationary- I remember always want to take my mom’s nice scrapbooking supplies because I adored the stickers and things.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think its never a smooth road for artists. Art is very competitive especially if you don’t know anyone. I think it’s important to make connections early on in college because you never know who might know someone who knows someone. It’s also important for me to not only celebrate my success but my classmates, coworkers, etc. It’s important for me to see other people thriving and doing what they love, it helps motivate me to push myself.

What should we know about Keeter Illustration? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I mainly specialize in pattern work. My pieces are usually colorful and cute. I am also very passionate about making patterns and images with fantasy or mythology themes.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Over the years at scad, I’ve collected a lot of things my of my professors have given me. I think the most useful to this day is a printout of all the adobe shortcut keys. Another is one of those blank color wheels you can fill in yourself. It seems silly- I could find the same one online and print it out for next to nothing. For me though, having a tangible copy is helpful in deciding where I want to go with a project.
