Conversations with the Inspiring Gabrielle Goodwin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Goodwin.

Gabrielle , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mom was frustrated and ranted on Twitter about how my bows wouldn’t stay in my hair. Many moms agreed with her. Our pastor saw the tweet and replied, “Sounds like a market you need to break into.”

My mom told me about the Twitter exchange. I was five at the time, so I kept asking every day, “When are my bows coming? When are we going to make my bows? When are my bows coming?” I pushed my mom every day until we started working on the idea.

We started the business when I was seven and have patented the first Double-Face Double-Snap Barrette.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not. We have heard many no’s but I have a quote I always say, “NO is just an abbreviation for Next Opporunity.”

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into GaBBY Bows story. Tell us more about the business.
GaBBY Bows save families time, money and frustration. NO MORE LOST BOWS!

As CEO, I do inventory, speak to schools and community groups, help with sales taxes, write thank you notes to every customer who orders barrettes online. I also host the GaBBY Play Date to teach girls in children’s shelters about entrepreneurship.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Some boys think they have more potential than girls and try to intimidate us, but it’s a barrier we can break.
