Conversations with the Inspiring Jenna Zembillas (Reeves)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Zembillas (Reeves).

Jenna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story is little all over the place, so bear with me here! 🙂 I am from a very small town in Nebraska. I didn’t know much about modeling nor did I ever see myself as one but once upon a time, I was randomly scouted by a talent search called ProScout and I began traveling as a model at 16 years old.

With much hesitation, I decided to give it a try. In 2004, I signed with an agency in Osaka, Japan, then on to Tokyo. Talk about a culture shock. I was very, very homesick but that wasn’t enough to keep me from continuing this journey.

I was given the opportunity to graduate high school a little early (small town perks) and I then moved to Miami. From then on, my life has been the best combination of crazy and beautiful. I’ve lived in 10 different countries and have traveled to more than I can even begin to list.

During all my travels and even before, I always had a camera. I’ll never forget packing my 10 disposable cameras for my trip to Japan (does that make me sound old?). Whether it was capturing the perfect sunset on the top of Lion’s Head mountain in South Africa, the streets of Auckland, NZ or just a night out with friends. Capturing life, happiness, that feeling, that one moment in time, this has always been so important to me.

Fast forward to meeting and marrying my amazing husband. We both lived in Miami at the time. In October 2016, right after our wedding, we moved to Atlanta for his job. I welcomed the move with open arms as I was ready for a fresh start and a new city. We both continued to travel for work (his job requires weekly travel as well) but I wasn’t as happy with that life anymore. I was looking for something “else”… and one day, not a particular day, I just felt it and I bought my very first DSLR.

I didn’t know what my niche would be or if I’d even have one. I had no idea where to begin, all I knew is that I really enjoyed photographing happiness.

We’ve now been in ATL for 3 1/2 years, on top of modeling and photography, I feel as if I’m always building my business. I’m so grateful for all my wonderful clients – they’re loyalty and referrals are everything to me.

I truly love photography. I love being able to allow others to see the beauty in themselves. I love capturing pure, honest love within a family. I love having the opportunity to give others the most priceless memories.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The modeling industry isn’t what a lot of people think. I learned a lot about the world and the people in it, but I had many struggles along the way. I could probably write a book. Also, finding the ambition to start a business in a new city, where you don’t know anyone… I definitely lost motivation several times.

My advice for those of you who are starting out in any endeavor is to find a mentor. Someone you can talk to. Someone whose been in your shoes or is on the same path. Surround yourself with support

What should we know about Jenna Lea Photography? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in lifestyle photography. I always use natural light, and I focus on capturing real moments. I love those “in the moment” moments if you know what I mean. I put a lot into my sessions, I try to ensure that my clients feel comfortable and relaxed.

I’ve spent many years on the other side of the camera so I am able to use this experience to help my clients with posing, looking and feeling comfortable, wardrobe styling. I feel like I am able to give my clients stress-free, very easy-going, simple photography sessions.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Social media has been such a blessing. With both modeling and photography, I’ve been able to use these platforms in several positive ways.

I’ve joined a few photography Facebook groups. I love this platform because it allows you to ask questions and post your images. So many people are in your exact same position and many are willing to offer you advice and critique.

Instagram is amazing. Anyone who uses it for their professional business knows this to be true. It can be work at times but it’s so worth it.

I also use YouTube to see how other photographers edit and other tips.
