Conversations with the Inspiring Katiee McKinstry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katiee McKinstry.

Katiee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was in college, I wanted to find a way to have more published writing online to add to my resume. I thought the easiest way I could appeal to the same age demographic, was to publish a blog about saving money in college. However, quickly my blog went from lifestyle to feminism, and everything in between. As I became more and more passionate about feminism, I realized that I could influence change the most through my writing. The written word is powerful. I believe change starts with a conversation, and I try to start those for my fellow feminists. Feminism is for everyone, and I try to convey that through my writing. So, four years later, here I am. Life starts with coffee and feminism.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t! Blogging is a lot of work, with very little reward. I didn’t realize that running a blog is essentially running your own business and that to this day, I am still not profitable. However, it is something that I love. Being able to inspire others through my writing is a dream. I’m not quitting my day job any time soon, but if you love something, always go after it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Life Starts With Coffee story. Tell us more about it.
My current position aside from my blog is being a Greeter at Yogaworks. However, my passions come through on my website. I offer Tarot readings, Natal Chart Readings, Social Media Consulting, and more. My blog niche is feminism, though. I write about various topics, to draw readers to learn more about equality and saving the environment. I try to inspire others through kindness because I believe we should always be kind to one another.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Gloria Steinem is one of my biggest inspirations as far as career. She’s a feminist writer and has made her legacy off of that… it’s the dream, right?

Miley Cyrus is another muse of mine. She’s a feminist advocate and I don’t think we give her enough credit as an artist.
