Today we’d like to introduce you to Keturah Waters.
Keturah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up as a military brat, you have no choice but to fall in love with your surroundings. At a young age, I moved to Tokyo, Japan, I had the pleasure of falling in love with foods like Yakisoba and gyzo. Right when I started falling in love with Japanese food, my dad announced we were moving to The Netherlands
I was immediately engulfed into the culture and the FOOD! Living right next to the border of The Netherlands, I got the best of both worlds from Germany as well. I found myself pigging out on poffertjes, schnitzel, and frikandel. As you can tell, I became a foodie at a very young age. After my overseas adventures, I moved to Florida and continued to eat my way around Orlando and Tampa. I moved to Atlanta and hit the ground RUNNING! Then, I realized I loved to eat just as much as I love to capture photos of my exquisite meals! I started up a food page @atlyum as well as running my personal page. I’m that person that takes about 25 pictures before I even take a bite because I want the PERFECT SHOT.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every path worth traveling will always have obstacles along the road. Sometimes, it’s hard to get people to believe in your craft, and see value in it. Anything that is important to you is important. If it makes you happy, pursue it. If it brings joy to your life, keep traveling in that direction. It’s not about how many dollars it puts in your pocket, it’s about how many people you make smile. In my case, drool! If I can make someone hungry from my picture, I’m completely satisfied. If I can draw more attention to small business, I am happy and happiness always wins.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have an eye for beautiful things! I love taking photos and I love eating. So, I combine two of my favorite things together: me and food. I’m constantly taking selfies with my food and that is what I love. I’ve been able to eat at some of the best places around the world including Hong Kong, Beijing, Italy, and more. Some of my photos have been shared on numerous restaurant accounts and that brings me joy! It’s nice to see that restaurants can see the beauty in what I see.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Honestly, Yelp is my life. I became Yelp Elite in 2018 and it has been amazing. Anytime I’m thinking about a restaurant, I’m on Yelp. Honorable mention to Instagram and fellow foodies around Atlanta. With their help, I’ve been able to feed these little taste buds of mine.
