Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Dunning.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Stay Out of My Crease was born from being a sports blogger. Radio AFS reached out to me asking if I would be interested in hosting a hockey Radio show.
I have been blogging for about 7 years about both NFL and NHL and for numerous sites. I started out as the first female blogger for the Dallas Cowboys site, The Landry Hat and then later on, for Sports Elite and Inscriber Magazine.
Stay Out of My Crease was born in 2016 and continues to go strong on KJC Radio.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never easy for a woman to break into the sports world. Blogging for an NFL site, was a little easier but people don’t like to hear the cold hard facts. So, I had a lot of people trashing my knowledge on social media outlets as well as comments on blogs I wrote.
Now that I’ve shifted my focus to hockey, I run into the same thing with a good majority of male hockey fans considering I’ve never played the sport.
All the bad press is still free publicity for me and I embrace learning more and more about hockey in order to get the best available information to listeners.
What should we know about Stay Out of My Crease? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am known for being a very strong-willed and opinionated female with a think outside the box mentality.
What sets me apart from others is I embrace criticism and improve myself on a daily basis.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Having the male fans take me seriously. They see a female and automatically assume they have very little sports knowledge.
