Conversations with the Inspiring Rachel Roop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Roop.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Upon graduation from James Madison University, I was unable to find a job within my field of Dietetics. I fell into a what I then thought temporary position as an Executive Assistant for a high producing Atlanta Realtor. I started from the bottom learning all the ins and outs of the business and helped manage the day to day tasks. After a year of administrative duties, I received my license and advanced to a showing assistant while still managing my lead agent’s business. Realizing how much I loved the interactions with clients more than the desk job, I took a risk and went full time as a Buyer’s Agent for a top team. My time with this company was beyond incredible and fulfilling, teaching me that mindset and dedication are the two biggest factors for success in running a business.

In 2016, I branched away to establish myself as an independent Realtor at Keller Williams Intown Atlanta where I still remain today. I absolutely love my chaotic, busy life of real estate where no two days are ever the same. I am humbled by the recognitions of having been Top 10 in my office for many quarters and remain within the top 20% annually. For me, real estate is not sales. It instead is a business that allows me to connect with others and help assist in one of the biggest investments of their lives and establish relationships that surpass the closing table.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I almost laughed at this question as Real Estate is without a doubt an emotional roller coaster. No two transactions are ever the same. You learn with every transaction and can never know it all. In the beginning, I feel like you know nothing. Sitting for the licensing exam does not teach you how to find clients, maintain a business or even how to make your first offer, which is an adrenal rush in itself.

I am forever thankful that I had a solid foundation prior to establishing my own business. The wisdom and systems I’ve learned from my previous bosses are invaluable. While I do acknowledge that many people can begin independently, I attribute much of my success to learning from those who came before me. That, and always admitting when I’m wrong.

I believe much of my success comes from where I’ve always been honest. When the answers have been unknown, I have always had the Keller Williams staff and community available for bouncing ideas off of. I have dropped the ball before and it was absolutely gut wrenching; however, instead of sweeping it under the rug, I take pride in the fact that I’ve always been able to admit to my faults and make them right when required. Being honest and humble to ask for help are the two biggest things to consider along with patience. There are highs and lows in this business, as you’ll learn. One day, I may have 8 contracts pending and the next month maybe one. Teaching yourself balance helps overcome those slower days and always staying proactive.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Roop Residential, LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an independent Realtor in and around the Atlanta area. The simplest description is that I help others purchase and sell homes. What I think sets me apart from the rest, is the fact that I care. I think anyone who has worked with me will say that I put my clients first and I also follow my tagline “love where you live”, making sure that I’m staying involved with the communities I sell in!

The purchasing process can be intimidating and having a weak agent can make or break a dream. I always sit down with my clients on the front end to learn about them and their needs along with having in depth explanations of what to expect as we embark upon their home search journey. Reverting back to what I learned, I worked on over 100 homes prior to advancing to independent, which helped instill in me a strong understanding of the negotiating process to help get my clients the best deal. While the average home in Atlanta goes for about 98% of sales to list price, my stats are even lower at a 96.8%, meaning on average I am saving my clients money.

With listings, I am dedicated to a strategic marketing process that helps get my clients’ homes sold in the least amount of time for the most amount of money. Professional photography, Facebook blasts, open houses and door knocking to invite neighbors are just a few tasks involved with the listing process! It is always enjoyable on the front end when you’re informing a seller that their investment was one well worth spent!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I am beyond proud to be a woman business owner! I attend constructive conversations and seminars outlining the difficulties women face in the workforce and it breaks my heart. To be honest, I’ve never had corporate experience, so cannot say I’ve ever faced unfairness; however, I was also always raised to believe that I can do anything and that gender would never inhibit my capabilities.

I do think there is grand opportunity for women. I also feel as if I’ve been blessed for exposure to a tribe of women who focus on lifting each other up and connecting one another to help establish success. I was always told it may not be what you know, but who you know and I have witnessed in the Atlanta area a group of women through Atlanta Social Club who are constantly presenting job opportunities and responses to others looking for work. It is a beautiful thing when we are willing to utilize our networks to help others achieve their goals.
