Conversations with the Inspiring Samantha Samuels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Samuels.

Samantha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am native of Guyana, South America. I migrated to America at the age of fourteen and lived in New York throughout my high school years. I later moved to Maryland to live with my aunt and to find my way as a woman. It’s there that I earned a certificate in Computer Science and began to work for the Department of Energy in Washington, DC. However, I moved back to New York in nineteen ninety-eight after my beloved paternal grandmother passed away. My grandmother was my rock and I could no longer hear her voice, I felt compelled to return to New York with my extended family.

Nevertheless, my grandmother left one wish that was for me to marry my current husband. I am married to my childhood sweetheart for eighteen years. I have three beautiful children, two boys and my princess, who keeps me on track. I founded “AuthenticMe Consulting, LLC” in 2018 after being on a journey of my own trying to find my true authentic self. I believe in “Igniting the flames within”.

I am a graduate from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational leadership, with the focus on Small business and Non-Profit. I obtained my Life Coaching Certificate from Georgia Life Coach Academy. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Mental Health and Wellness from Grand Canyon University. I am an entrepreneur, Life Coach, Motivational Speaker and an Advocate for my community. I am the newly Elected President of the Caribbean Association of Georgia for the new upcoming year, 2020. My book, “Treasures In My Heart” which I wrote with twelve other amazing women, made it on Amazon’s best seller’s list. I am the founder of Speak2Me Toastmasters club and one of the Co-Leader for Girl Scout Troop 15005 in McDonough for five years.

I began my journey with the Caribbean Association of Georgia four years ago, under the leadership of current President Chris Scott. I have made significant impact to the Caribbean community and surrounding. For the past four years, I helped facilitate the McDonough Festival, which attracts around ten thousand in attendance. I work alongside the President and other executives in the effort to support the less fortunate during the holiday season. I have helped coordinate the feeding of over three hundred and fifty men at the Atlanta Gateway every year. I have also help with feeding the soldiers, celebrate Caribbean-American Heritage month, every June by displaying my Guyanese culture through delicious cuisine. I have accepted the Proclamation on behalf of the Caribbean Association of Georgia from the City of McDonough. I am a pillar in my community and will continue to work alongside local leaders to help support the Caribbean Diaspora.

I recently started a local chapter for the National Federation for Families with Children Mental Health, which helps family that has children that are struggling with depression, anxiety, suicide and any other mental health issues.

In January of 2020, I will launch the Youth M.O.V.E program that will help young adults support each other by sharing their lived experiences. I have worked in the school system for over ten years and see the need to encourage, motivated and uplift young adults. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, visiting state parks, cooking for family and friends. I find joy in serving people in my community.

What is a Life Coach?
A Professional who provides the drive and guidance to their clients and to improve their, Careers, relationships, businesses, and lives. They help clients to: Recognize their skills and dreams, refocus their goals, move past challenges that stand in the way of those goals.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

It has not been an easy road and still is not an easy road but I understand more than ever that God’s plans are not my plan. One of the scriptures that kept me in my early twenties was, “Simon, Simon, look out! Satan has asked to sift you like wheat but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.” Luke 22:31-32. This scripture kept me when I felt like I was not going anywhere, this scripture kept me at base. I have learned to not give up and that every experience is one to learn from. As a child, I had a rough path but even in those moments, God would give me dreams and now in my mid-forties, those dreams are coming to life. One thing I want to say to women is to never give up on your dreams, You can do whatever you put your mind to, you may have some bumps in the road but they are only bumps. Some bumps are meant for you to slow down, while others are meant for you to think if that was the right road. Nevertheless, keep going and always remember your gift will make room for you. You are destined for greatness but be authentic and true to yourself.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into AuthenticMe Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Life Coach, I work with individuals who are in the transitional stages of life. These individuals are between the age of 35 to 55 and they want to know what is next. It’s during this time that women question their purpose in life. They have raised their children, had a career but then they feel stuck. As a coach, I take clients through a six weeks intensive session to really peel away the layers so that they can find that person that they like when they look in the mirror. We then go through three phases, where I am now, where I’m going and how do I get there? My fees are minimal, $300 for six weeks, one-hour sessions each week and it’s amazing the transformation after six weeks once the steps are applied. I have a client, who felt stuck even though she was a nurse director, once she found her gift and manifest her gift, she was able to launch her business after the six-week session.

Secondly, I do business mixers during these mixers, women are able to share their stories, showcase their gifts, products and make great connection. As someone who likes to celebrate others I do not compete against anyone, I believe that out of seven billion people in the world, there is something for every person. Everyone has a tribe and they must find it. I have found my tribe and once we have a consultation, they know immediately if I am someone they want to work with and likewise, I know if that is someone I want to work with. I don’t work for money more than I work to change people’s lives.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
The late Dr. Myles Monroe states, “find a problem and solve it”. Women are good at finding a problem, we now have to solve the problem. I believe that everything is within us and we have to pull everything out of us. As a woman whose mind runs a thousand miles an hour, they are no one particular opportunity. I believe the biggest struggle for women is not having a supportive team. We have to celebrate each other. Once you have a sister that supports you, women can do anything. Many people say the sky is the limits but I no longer believe that I believe the sky is just the beginning. I believe there are no limits when it comes to a woman and the possibilities.
