Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Muse and Samantha Serpe Bazemore.
Sharon and Samantha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The two of us met while we were both working at Barre3 South Buckhead, an exercise studio, and naturally hit it off. We started sharing our love for healthy food with each other and noticed that other people were interested in what we were cooking and sharing too.
Creating our blog www.sageandcelery.com
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We wouldn’t say it has all been smooth sailing but it has been a lot of fun! While we knew we wanted to start a blog, we didn’t realize at all just what goes into creating one and to keep it going. Not to mention the technical sides of a blog. Both of us love to be in the kitchen creating recipes, so that aspect wasn’t a challenge – even taking pictures came fairly easy. However, setting up the blog itself was entirely out of our wheelhouse.
We weren’t making any money so we had to think long and hard about hiring any help. So, we tried to bootstrap everything and do it ourselves. Google and YouTube are great resources – we googled “how to…” a lot and when we did hit roadblocks, we hired people to help us out. We’ve learned a tremendous amount along the way, one main lesson is that sometimes you just need to ask for help!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Sage and Celery story. Tell us more about it.
We both chose to become certified Holistic Health Coaches because we each overcame some health issues by making changes to our diet and lifestyle. Since our main area of expertise is in the kitchen, sharing our recipes was a natural step. We love to take a traditionally unhealthy recipe and rework it so that is good for you, yet still tastes great. We firmly believe that healthy food can and should be delicious:)!
A lot of people don’t know exactly where to start when embarking on a health journey and we want to help by showing them that it is possible and enjoyable to eat this way. On that note – we don’t believe that one certain way of eating is the only healthy way to go, we are all different and while one person feels fantastic on a vegan diet, another person might feel lightheaded and shaky and they may feel better eating a Paleo diet. So, you will see all sorts of recipes on our blog – but they will all nourish your body.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just want to give you a great recipe, we want you to understand why we are using these ingredients. So, we try to include a little bit of education in each post by explaining the nutrition value of the ingredients we used in that recipe.
One thing that makes us so proud is when someone tells us they made a recipe and they loved it! It is so exciting to see people making positive changes for themselves and their family. We put our heart and soul into creating recipes that are healthy and delicious. We know there are a lot of food blogs out there and we are truly honored when someone makes and enjoys one of our recipes – it really makes our day!!
