Conversations with the Inspiring Tai’Lor Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tai’Lor Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tai’Lor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hey there! I have been doing hair for four years now, I am a State Board Certified Braider and I own The Tailored Hair Collection which houses Mink Brazilian bundles, Lace Wigs and more. I started Tailored Hair in 2014, upon attending Bowling Green State University. Four years later, I graduated from BGSU with a Bachelors of Science. After graduation, I decided to relocate… that’s right! Tailored Hair is now taking over Charlotte, North Carolina, where I am pursuing a Natural Hair Care license. I plan to continue to perfect my craft so that I can create the best experience for my clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t always easy. When I first began doing hair, people talked about my work and me all the time. BUT, I kept going and kept perfecting my craft. The key to success and confidence in planning and dedication. Once you wholeheartedly put your all into something you can’t help but to love it and believe in it. FOCUS ON YOURSELF, worrying about others will get you nowhere.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Tailored Hair story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in Custom Wigs, Lace Installs, and Healthy Hair. I am known for teaching classes and doing bomb Lace Closure Sew-ins, those are my favorite. I am most proud of my website, all of my photoshoots and of all of the hair classes I have taught.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Don’t be afraid to reach out. I will DM, email, call, anything in a quick second if I need help or want advice. People are made to have interactions, so use them. Not everyone will be receptive and nice but there are definitely people out there willing and ready to help!
