Conversations with Jerrica Burns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrica Burns.

Hi Jerrica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for having me! For starters, I have always found it easy to talk to people. I was raised in Charleston, South Carolina. The city is charming and it became very easy for me to put some of that charm to use once I began working and meeting new people. Through trial and error I was able to cultivate my communication skills. I became successful by networking and providing outstanding customer service via account management, operations, and sales in the hospitality industry. I took a risk on an opportunity and eventually moved to Atlanta, GA. As I began developing more relationships, I found myself being the friend close friends and colleagues solicited advice from. It was never a burden for me because I felt like it was my way of giving back. I’m also a believer of heavy self-reflection, or as I would say now “Growing & Glowing.” During these conversations, I would use my own experiences as examples to help loved ones navigate through their life journey. When Covid-19 affected the hotels I worked for, my position as a Business Travel Sales Manager was eliminated. I was devastated but I also trusted the outcome was working out for my good. After a few phone calls and a little more self-reflection, I went back to notes stored in my iPhone from 2018 listed “Passion Projects.” This included a plethora of business ideas and podcast titles for my “dream” podcast. As a Communication & Theoretic Studies student, I’ve always dreamed of stepping into the media world.

I started to think, “What’s a better time than now?” Most of my colleagues in the industry were laid off or furloughed indefinitely and needed inspiration. I instantly felt this was my calling – to inspire and serve. Only this time it would be via podcasting. After launching ‘Confessions of a Go-Getter Podcast,’ the number of phone calls and messages I received was incredible. People confirmed what I had felt before. Their souls needed inspiration. They needed self-care and self-development reminders from someone they knew and trusted. Creating COAGG Podcast was the best decision I’ve made in 2020. I realize now it could not have happened any earlier or later. This is the year we all needed to care more, talk more, love more, give more and inspire each other more while striving to live out our very best lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I believe there will always be a challenge for us to overcome. For me, while COAGG Podcast, we were in quarantine. That was difficult because I was so used to moving around and staying busy. At the same time I also decided to re-enroll back into college. You can imagine how trying to manage both endeavors while in the middle of a pandemic while also looking for employment in a collapsed job market must have been overwhelming. I found myself trying to juggle what was most important. There were so many days I felt like I was fooling myself. Why am I trying to go back to school, and why am I trying to start this podcast?! But I realized I just needed to slow down and remember my “why.” As my mon would say, I needed to “buckle down.” Here I am doing everything I questioned and doubted before. It’s truly a dream come true and I’m forever grateful for those who have given me endless encouragement to keep pushing even when I felt like I was out of gas…I have arrived.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
COAGG Podcast is known for its “sister-friend” vibes and for being highly motivational. Listeners say my episodes make them feel as if I’m in their living room having a conversation with them. Overall, I help people realize their full potential and gain awareness through self-development skills. I’m your cheerleader. I wholeheartedly believe we can do ANYTHING we put our minds to. Honestly,I am most proud of the feedback I have received from supporters who have been impacted by the show. I pray that they are forever inspired. I also pray they are working on becoming the best version of themselves because action is attractive. Most importantly, we are learning something new every day and will be in this together. Stay tuned for merchandise, collaborations, and interactive events coming soon!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
An audience of one is still an audience. Do “it” for them and do “it” for you. If you can influence one person to change their life for the better, you’ve done more than enough. Ultimately, I believe that’s what sets me apart from others. It’s the humility, positivity and the energy I give. Positivity is contagious.
