Hi Kaddy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Four years ago, I was just a black man in Lafayette, Indiana, that knew he was destined to do more in life. I had been struggling in many ways, but I always had it in my brain that I would get out of the town and head to Atlanta to become a part of the music industry. All of my favorite artists are from Atlanta and what better way to learn the industry and launch my own career than to go to the grounds of the greats such as Outkast, Shawty Redd, 808 Mafia, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, and more. After being almost homeless, I made my decision to take a chance and follow my dreams by moving to Atlanta. My younger brother and artist Ripparachie had recently moved to Atlanta and told me to come because the Atlanta scene would be interested in my sound.
I moved to Atlanta in 2017, at the time, I had been producing for ten years, but I didn’t know how to market myself or create a business around my skill set. When I first moved to the city, I saw how people were almost killing themselves to be signed or next to a celebrity that could care less about them and didn’t want to be one of those, but most importantly, didn’t want others to do it either. I took my future and artistry into my own hands, started my own music business and independent record label, and have been growing it and a supportive community ever since. This year I am building out my business to not only include music but health and wellness – I will be a certified Yoga instructor in December of 2020.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No road worth traveling is smooth. Every human thinks they want it to be easy in life, but where’s the fun in that?! My journey has had some bumps, especially when it comes to getting the right information needed to succeed. I wouldn’t of had it any other way. I had to learn mostly by my own means as I didn’t really my parents present in my life growing up, so had to find role models and guidance on my own. I have moved around a lot growing up, so I never had a steady foundation. And then there is being a 6’1 black man in America…
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In layman’s terms, I’m a singer, songwriter, producer, and founder and CEO of my own indie record label and music collective TripHouse Enterprises. In my terms, I’m a sound architect, a music merger, and creator of a “Be yourself” incubator. What sets me apart from others is my desire to help myself and others grow. I am truly proud of the community of support I’ve built. I am also really proud that I am expanding my business to be about music and wellness and will be incorporating health and yoga into the business model in 2021. The music industry needs some balance and I am here trying to provide it!
What does success mean to you?
I define success as being able to live comfortably off of your passion. Most say it’s the most money or the newest item. I ain’t for that bullsh*t. It took me a while to figure out that those things don’t matter. Success is the good energy and influence that you’ve placed in the hearts of the humans you come in contact with.
