Conversations with Amanie Bussey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanie Bussey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are a family owned business that started back in 2005, with an idea that we wanted to carry my father and mother’s legacy of family owned businesses. We new that family owned businesses were the backbone of any community, and we wanted to preserve them. We also wanted to offer affordable fine furniture in a family atmosphere. We really felt that we encompassed that vision.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any new business, it wasn’t always an easy road. Most new businesses fail within the first 5 years, but we were blessed to grow fairly quickly, that is until the 2008-2010 real-estate bubble imploded… and panic hit our economy. We felt a little bit of a hit there, luckily we buckled down and got through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I always grew up loving interior design, and a fellow realtor offered me an opportunity 5 years ago to stage a home she was trying to sell. To say I was hooked is an understatement. We have now incorporated home staging for realtors, businesses, Airbnbs, and as of lately a huge project here in downtown Columbus. We worked with the owner of PTap, Jason Gamache, and helped turn the old Realto into long term rentals. We furnished 16 apartments and loved every minute of it. One of the things we are also very proud of is we were voted People’s Choice “Best All-Around Mattress Store” 3 years in a row. It was a huge honor.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
When we were about 5 years in, we definitely took risks and were fearless. We opened up mattress and Furniture stores in different cities, like Auburn Al and Opelika. As I have grown a little more in the business, I am now more into stability and consistency. I definitely fell like risk is for my younger self. 🤣
