Today we’d like to introduce you to Anand Mehta.
Hi Anand, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Stand Up Family Medicine began with a simple idea: bring back the heart of medicine.
After years of working in outpatient medicine within large hospital systems and later serving as Medical Director for Walmart Health, I realized something was missing. I loved caring for patients, but the system didn’t always allow me the time or space to truly connect. The paperwork, insurance hurdles, and rushed visits made it hard to give people the kind of care they deserved.
So, I decided to create something different, something personal.
Looking for a change, I founded Stand Up Family Medicine as a Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice, a membership-based model that works outside the insurance world. This approach allows me to slow down, spend real time with patients, and focus on building lasting relationships, the way medicine used to be.
The name Stand Up Family Medicine reflects both of my passions which are love for stand-up comedy and my commitment to standing up for what’s right — better patient care, physician well-being, and a stronger primary care community. Here, laughter and healing go hand in hand, and every patient becomes part of the Stand Up family.
Now, as we celebrate our 5-year anniversary, we’re deeply grateful for the patients who’ve trusted us along the way, and for the chance to keep doing what we love which is delivering honest, heartfelt care that makes people feel truly seen and supported.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Stand Up Family Medicine was built on faith, hope, and a deep belief that healthcare should be improved.
After years working in traditional medicine and serving as a medical director, I realized that the system often left too little time for what mattered most, truly caring for people. So, I made the difficult decision to step away from the stability of employed medicine giving up steady paychecks, benefits, and certainty to start from zero patients and build something more meaningful.
The road wasn’t easy. From learning how to run a business, to introducing a new model of care to East Cobb, to even facing a pipe burst in the first office that forced me to work remotely, every challenge became part of the story.
Through it all, the vision never wavered: to restore the personal, lasting doctor–patient relationship that medicine was meant to have.
As a Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice, Stand Up Family Medicine offers a membership-based model outside of insurance, giving patients time, access, and care that feels genuine like family.
Now, as we celebrate our 5-year anniversary, we’re filled with gratitude for the trust of our patients, the lessons of the journey, and the chance to keep caring the way it was always meant to be.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a family physician, my passion has always been simple, to take care of people the way medicine was meant to be practiced: with time, trust, and genuine connection.
I specialize in Family Medicine and care for patients of all ages, from children to older adults. My background includes 15 years of experience in outpatient medicine within large hospital systems, followed by my role as Medical Director for Walmart Health, where I helped build and oversee innovative models of community-based care.
But over time, I realized that the traditional healthcare system filled with rushed visits, endless paperwork, and insurance frustrations made it harder to give patients the care they truly deserve. That realization led me to start Stand Up Family Medicine, in order to change healthcare the way it should be practiced. This approach gave me the freedom to spend real time with patients, focus on prevention, and build lasting, family-like relationships.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just starting from zero patients and growing a thriving practice, it’s the trust and connection I’ve built with each individual who walks through our doors. I’m proud to be part of a movement that’s bringing humanity back to healthcare, one conversation, one visit, and one relationship at a time.
What sets me apart is not just the medicine I practice, but the way I practice it, intentionally, compassionately, and personally. My patients aren’t numbers or charts; they’re people I know, care about, and feel deeply honored to serve.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
