Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Salop
Hi Andrew , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Andrew ‘Combo’ Salop, a former professional basketball player who spent 10 years playing overseas. After my playing career, I transitioned into media by creating Combo’s Court, a podcast that dives deep into the world of basketball and beyond. Launched in 2017, the show now has over 600 episodes, featuring a range of guests from former NBA All-Stars and New York Times best-selling authors to award-winning media members. The podcast is sponsored by PrizePicks and has allowed me to collaborate with networks like Bleav, BBALLBREAKDOWN, and Knicks Fan TV. I’ve also appeared on platforms like SNY TV and Power 105.1, expanding my reach beyond just basketball to cover a wide variety of topics, blending sports, culture, and personal stories. Through Combo’s Court, I’ve built a unique space for thoughtful conversations that connect with both athletes and fans alike
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Knee surgeries I’ve had 3 of them!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I’m most proud of is my ability to persevere and thrive during my 10-year overseas basketball career. Living and playing in different countries was both an incredible experience and a challenge, especially when it came to isolation. Being away from family and friends for long stretches of time, in countries where I didn’t speak the language, really tested my mental toughness. I had to adapt quickly, not only to new cultures but also to different playing styles. That experience taught me resilience and the importance of staying focused on my goals, no matter the circumstances. It’s something that’s really shaped who I am today, both on and off the court. And it’s that same mindset I carry into Combo’s Court—being able to connect with people through shared experiences and navigating challenges.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Everyone could give you reasons it won’t work but you have to find ways it will!
